The truth be told I am a rank amature in photography. So much of it is totally new to me. When I walk around with my 50mm lens on it seems everything I see is 100mm away. or with my 100mm I want to be 35mm wide... Today I got back my 24-70 zoom from canon service. And I am happy. If I could I would be walking around with a half a dozen cameras ( stereotypical shutterbug ) ;) with different lenses to try to convey what I am seeing.
I can't even get what I am seeing, let alone use the camera to enhance what I am seeing.:) Still I will try.
I started this to say I appreceiate the zooming ability of the 24-70 mm over the confines of the primes for walking around. For now!

I still have my film Minolta SR-1. It's claim to fame is a 55mm 1.8 lens and a hand held light meter. But for years I shared all your frustrations

Ten years or so ago, I bought a Tamaron 80 - 240 mm (all this gear is in a drawer), and that let me frame for much better "everything within range". But it was too much gear to lug around, so I travelled with the P & S Olympus "Trip" cameras that my kids owned.

Now I have G2. It's convenient -- but -- I miss the manual focus and the small f@ 11, 16, 22.

So you win some and lose some -- great iamges that is! All in all its quite a privledge to have this stuff.
