Helloooo...

I just bought a 20d in the Sell section (Woohoo!), and was looking up some aftermarket batteries... I saw that there are both bp-511 and bp-511a in a pricegrabber search. Both are the same price on the Sterlintek storefront, so I'm wondering what the difference is... Which is better, longer, etc? Thanks... - Jon

Look at the amp-hour life on B&H. I have both, but I can't remember which is longer. I have a bp-512 too.

The SterlingTek's are 1800aH. Which is more than the Canon BP-511a. I just rx'd 7 new SterlingTek's today and they are labeled BP-511. The "a" designation is a Canon thing.

weird... there's two different links...

... I supposed I can't lose. Especially at 9 bucks a pop.

Skip,

those are BOTH sterlingtek...

But actually, I think I'm going to go with Sterlingtek's official website (as opposed to their pricegrabber storefront). The 511 replacements they have on there are a higher mAh rating (1800 as opposed to 1500), and they give free shipping on orders over 60 bucks. Pretty sweet.

I actually exchanged a couple of emails with the owner of SterlingTek last night as I pondered my FedEx delivery and had not rx'd a tracking number.

I was quite shocked to rx a PERSONAL response from the SterlingTek owner sending me my tracking number!

Customer service doesn't get better than that!!!!

I've received the same level of experience. My take is that SterlingTek is a oneperson shop, or very close to it. They almost have to be as cheap as their products are. I would buy from them again.

*shrugs* it possibly is one of those, too.

If you want to look locally, there are a couple of places here in OZ with the batteries for around $25 (oz dollars)

Another vote for Sterlingtek 1800mAh batteries. I can't even remember the last time I've charged mine. Arguably the best addition to your 20D. And yes, they're also on ebay.

Besides the mAh, are the volts important?

My Canon one is 7.4V and the third party one I have is 7.2V
Maybe this is why the 20D says battery is low but it lasts lots of time.

Bewaretheblur,
The oem BP511a that you have is the one from Sterlingtek ;)
I bought it not that long ago, and it definately outlasts the Canons.
Go with Sterlingtek, their prices are great, so is their support.
To be honest, the only time I've needed to use even ONE of my backup batteries is after shooting 3-4 hours solid of bodybuilding shows.
I dont think I've ever had to use more than 2 batteries in a LONG day of shooting.
Enjoy the new cammie!
