Just got through testing the Canon 10D and Nikon D100, head-to-head, for myself. If anyone is interested, check out the comparisons here:

WOW ... thats quite a noticable difference

happy to see that the 10D will NOT be a mistake for me ... once I get around to it

In most cases, 10D seems to yield sharper images than D100 (I may be biased, but it appears to me).

However, you did not make it clear if you have used identical lenses (with adaptors on either one). If you had, you should make it clear. If you had used Canon lenses for 10D and Nikon lenses for D100, your test may not yield the net contributions of 10D and D100. The left would be the output of the combined Canon set and the right that of the Nikon set. In the absence of information, I tend to think it was the lenses that produced sharper images on the left, rather than 10D.

I would appreciate more clarification.

As I have seen comparsion where D100 beated the 10D as well in image quality. However I could not find any information about lens('s) used, so I cannot say which one is better. Same goes for this test, I'll look forward to hear for more information.

I used Canon EF lenses on the Canon, and Nikkor/Nikon lenses on the Nikon. I used about a half a dozen different lenses, both zooms and primes, on each camera - the results were consistent.

Besides, it does not take a super-sharp lens to resolve well on a 6MP sensor - this can be done with inexpensive lenses. The Nikon 24-85 AF-S G used in the test is actually a sharper lens than the Canon 24-85 USM. I am not saying that a good lens is not an improvement, otherwise, I would not have wated money on "L" glass, which I own.
