Have you tried opening both images and dragging the smaller onto the larger? I image it would be better to add a small border around the smaller image first.

It would just need to be copied onto the layer above with 100% opacity.

Huh? That's not right. How are you opening them? Try opening one, and then open another.

can you tell me how you save the first layer (background layer)of the first image so i can add the second image into the first image layers?
as soon as i open the second image that becomes the background layer and the first image dissapears,
whope you can get the drift of what i'm trying to explain badly.
cheers

Here is a screenshot of my CS2 with 2 photos open. CS and CS2 are the same in this respect.
To do what You want You resize of crop the photo You want a small copy of in the other. When resized or cropped You select all and copy. Then activate the othe rimage and paster. Then You have 2 layers. Make sure the one with the small image is active then You can drag the image to where You want it.

Look to the right on my screenshots. In the bottom You have the layer list. You can switch between the layers there.

If the small insert is where You want it You can also flatten the image. From the layers meny choose flatten image. But beware after that You cannot move the small image any more.

If you can't unlock it, just copy the layer then delete the locked layer. Then you can move it around at will. ;)

i have no idea what you are doing for that to happen...!
both images should initially be a 'background' layer.
an easier way to do it is to open them both up as you see in rumjumgles first screenshot.
then use the move tool, drag the image you want to appear on top into the other image window.
now press ctrl+t (apple+t on a mac) you will notice a grey box appears around the image you dragged with small squares at the corners and midpoints.
drag the small squares to resize the image (make sure you hold down shift when you drag the points, this will keep the image in the same ration and not distort it). when you are happy with the size and position of the smaller image (to change position just click and drag the image...) hit enter on your keyboard.

hi guys thanx again for the help, i beleive i have got there, but possibly not the correct way,
i had both images open, the small active, dragged the small image from the layers tab and placed in the open large pic? correct.
but as soon as you let go of the drag, the image can't be moved, but this happens before i flattened the image.
am i using the correct method or has it all gone over my head?
cheers for everthing,
regards Declan

Before you pull the small image over, is it already locked? Either way, just copy the layer by dragging that layer onto the new layer button. The copied layer will be unlocked.
Screen print: Press print screen on your keyboard, goto photoshop, open new document (dimensions will be set automatically), paste.

i can get the small image into the large image, but i have to guess where to put it because when i let go of the drag the small image can't be move to position it exactly where i want it, and thats with or without the background and small pic unlocked.

You have to select the move tool. The one with an arrow on. Then activate the layer You have the small image in then You can move it to where You want it.

As soon as you drop in the small image, make sure that layer is selected and press ctrl+t. Your image should then have a box round it with little square boxes at the corners and in the centre of each edge. If you put the cursor inside this box you should be able to move the layer anywhere you want... If this doesn't work, then i'm at a complete loss!?!
