Hi,

Just a general question about professional prints. Where does everyone get them from? I know there are a few online places, but what is the acual quality? Will color reproduction be accurate (assuming my monitor has been properly calibrated)? Any suggestions?

Also, what about very high quality professional prints, say for weddings. Do you also send those off somewhere? if so, where? Surely you can't print a professional wedding shoot on an inkjet. I am thinking more along the lines of high quality paper with texture to it, matte finish.

Just curious, my searches have not returned much.

Thanks

Rob

They're alot of opinions on who & where.
I've just recently learned from a major photographer here in Vegas to set up ICC profiles from every developer you plan on using in order to have your prints match your screen. In other owrds pick a picture that has many colors and shades in and take it into a shop and have them print it without tweaking. Then set thaat profile up in your PC to match. Everytime you use that developer set your monitor in that profile.
Quick prints I use my local Sams Club, inexpensive and they have the latest Frontier onsite. Still have'nt decided on a expert yet but I've used Color Reflections, they have multiple sites & some Pro's here recommends http://www.hhcolorlab.com/ and say they're the best.
Good Luck

Use Wal-mart. They are pretty good.

I use Adorama.com. Their quality is great, and they offer matte and glossy, and an option for white borders. They have a free nifty little program that allows to you upload pics to them. It also helps you crop, etc.

Adorama has the best prices I have ever seen...way better than Wal-mart. BTW, I've had very bad luck with Wal-mart. My pictures printed there all have a dark green tint. Of course, tell the people working there that, and all you get is..."huh?"

Also check out bayphoto.com

Best of luck,

Rob

Appleprints.com is pretty good, thought they do some color balancing, and so the prints might not come out exactly as you intended. But I've not gotten a print that I thought actually looked bad.

Whcc.com is focused much more on the professional market. They have the best price I've seen if you want them to just run your files through their printer. For that service they expect 300MP sRGB jpeg quality 10 adjusted to the size you want printed. On the other hand, they will do extensive fix-up of your files if you want to pay them for that service. You have to ftp the files to them, and there is no online account setup. They are not for the casual snapshooter, but well worth the effort if you're serious about quality.

Hi,
I live on Long Island and a friend of mine sent me to epixel.com They have a store front right here in Elmont, New York (home of Vinny Testeverde for any of you Jets fans). Anyway I sent them some pictures my friend took with his 10D (I still don't know which one I am buying, 10D or Rebel, but that is another thread). I was floored by the sharpness and color. The pictures were way better than anything that I ever printed up with film. So I took two rolls of film there to get printed up. They even printed up my film way better than anyone ever did. And I always spent the extra money at the mom and pop one hour photo places to get that extra quality. Epixel.com was amazing. They even have in their store a 40 inch by 60 inch print someone took with a 1D of a horse racing scene which, again, looked amazing. Long and short I have not used anyone else yet but I was impressed with Epixel.com They are one of the reasons that convinced me I needed to go digital ASAP. Hope that helped!

I have used a bunch of online processors- Shutterfly, Ofoto, Club Photo, & Photoworks - to name a few.

But my favorites are snapfish (http://www.snapfish.com) and ezprints (http://www.ezprints.com). Quality and prices are fine, fast service too with both - Both have matte or glossy, but ezprints has more choices of print size.

ezprints is by far my favorite because they have the internet ordering process that works the best for me.

I like Snapfish a lot... but their order process drops my filenames right at the point where I need them the most - when selecting quantity and sizes for your prints. This seemingly small thing is a nightmare when dealing with large customer orders with various print sizes and quantities! ezprints has the best order process and good cropping tools - although I occasionally have trouble with their website being slow (on only one of my computers)

Geographic locations don't matter that much to me - but ezprints is in Georgia and I think snapfish is in San Francisco.
