Like what you try to do here (correct me if I'm wrong). If you just want to play with the shadows a few things bother me:
#1: then end of the slide and the patch of grass
#2: the feet of the girl, the white block in the left bottom corner. You can still have the girl in the picture, but then just use her shadow.

I like both pics. The only thing that comes to mind when I see the feet though, is how the picture would have been improved had the child been playing hopscotch (or something of the like) in the shadows. But that's just my opinion.
I love shadows. :)

#2 is great. I tend to agree with Hal on this one. Even a shot at a different time of day or a different angle so as not to include the shadow of the trees if at all possible. I
think this has the potential to ba a greeeat photo.

great shot I love B&W. Maybe a tight cropon #2 take out the actual frame work you see on the left of the picture and even the feet at the top, let peoples imagination go wild.

Thank you all for your kind comments - I appreciate your suggestions!
#1 - I agree that this photo can probably be improved with some tight cropping - maybe even as much as the top fourth? The grass is distracting.
#2 - I actually posed my son at the top of the frame and told him to spread his arms out like that. I thought it would be cool to actually show part of him (his legs) as well as the shadows, but I think it might be better with just the shadow. Also the angle and his postition is a little off. Again, I agree that the portion of slide in the lower left is distracting.
I haven't really fooled around with these two pics too much - they are pretty much as I shot them. However, based on your recomendations, I think I might try some things to see if I can improve them a bit!
