I know I know, it's the AA filter or my lack of skills. And most images sharpen up pretty well with RSP or PS.

BUT, today I stuck a new 2.8 70-200L on my 20d for a baseball game and HOLY MOLY. So much for the AA filter. The pictures were tack sharp right out of the camera. The DOF is great, the lens is great, and I almost look like a great photographer for a minute. Every shot looked awesome at 100%, not that I'm a pixel peeper or anything.

Thats pretty typical of that lens and its little f/4L counterpart. Enjoy it for sure.

I'd like to see the images. I'm looking at a 70-200mm for my 20D for the same reason. My Tamron 75-300 is not up to the task. It is VERY soft.

it's weird, huh? when I use that combo for portraits I don't do any sharpening...and that's shooting RAW.

Good lens tend to deliever more, which requires less PP, unless you want to put in more.

It looks a lot better at 10mp but here's one. I really like the shallow DOF. The third baseman is OOF, the outfielder is OOF and the baserunner is tack sharp.

i think your resizing is loseing a lot of detail ,but taking that into account it looks good to me .

Yes,the Jpeg compression is killing any sharpness

I certainly have noticed a big jump in sharpness with my 70-200 f/4
I'm not keen on spending ages on each picture doing PP, so appreciate not having to sharpen everything and mess about with levels etc. I still have my film habits - shoor slowly and carefully with consideration, try to get it right....
My 2Gb card is wasted on me!
