Really like the pic of the drifting S14.5. I know its not your fault but the only thing that bugs me is the name of the event. Being half Japanese it is offensive. Anyways, thanks for the pics and again not trying to start a debate.

makes me wonder why a drift car needs a big wing on it? arent they better off losing some downforce on the rear?

You do need some downforce to control grip of the rear tires for forward momentum. Especially when some of these cars are going 80+mph. It may seem like drifting is all about losing all grip in your rear tires but its a fine balance of keeping enough grip to keep moving forward and not losing to much speed. Even though the tires are spinning at a high rate, they are still gripping the track surface to some extent. Can I use grip anymore in this post?

but the cars are going sideways...those spoilers seem to only direct air that is coming from in front of them.
and you DO NOT need a big ass spioler to drift. I've seen plenty of people here in Japan drift w/o them just fine. The only ppl I've seen use them functionally are the people who race on the C1/Wangan where some go up to 300km/h+ or on the tracks.
and when will you people into the so-called 'JDM scene' learn that 'Jap' is a racial slur?

I think it's more of an abbreviation of "Japan" rather than an intentional racial slur.

its clearly not intentional, what i find more offensive is peoples inability to see through these words.
the op was just telling it as it is... see here http://www.japfest.co.uk/ if it bugs you take it up with the organisers.
that aside, nice pics. dont know much about cars but i like that one coming over the crest too, the spray/smoke from the tires looks pretty cool.

The point about the naming of the event has been made. I am sure there was no intention to offend either on the part of the event organisers or the original poster.
Let's confine any further comments to the photography, please.
