CFS Irvine Rocks!
We sent it out on 9/4/03 to Irvine. We sent it ground as we were not in that much a hurry to get it back (we were out of town) and just gort it back today, 9/18/03. 14 days total turnaround time with CFS. Not too shabby. All seems to be in perfect working order, but will give it the test this weekend when we shoot a soccer match on Saturday.
Here are the service details exactly as written:
Replaced FPC ZOOM COLLAR SCREW CROSS RECESS
FFH. CLEANED ELEMENTS. CHECKED ALL
FUNCTIONS TO FACTORY SPEC.
Whatever the heck all that means. Anyway, it works!

That's great Jim. As a new owner of a 10D and trying to get better at taking soccer pictures. I admire your work and have been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and havve learned a great deal. I have also developed a lust for L glass after shooting with my 70-200f4L.
I have read Chuck's autofocus primer and have taken better pictures since then. Do you think I should seriously consider getting a 100-400L like yours or does my 70-200f4 with a 1.4X get me the same or similar results on the soccer field?

I also have the 70-200, though I have the 2.8 IS, and the 1.4, which I shot with last weekend at a Sprint Boat race in Idaho -- pictures coming this weekend.
The 1.4 will take you to 320mm, so it's only 80mm off the 100-400. IMO, on a soccer field, you should be able to follow the players enough on foot to keep them at an acceptable shooting distance. I have never shot soccer before, so this will be a new adventure this weekend for us.
For the Sprint Boats, my wife has been struggling with a Sigma 70-300. It just doesn't have the reach for stunning photos. Fortunately, at the track in Idaho and at the race before in Richland, WA, we were fairly close to the track, so her shots were actually quite good, as were mine with shooting 320 rather than 400 for max zoom.
I'll post some soccer shots over the weekend (I think we shoot Sunday), even if they suck. ;)
