I'm getting ready to purchase a telephoto zoom, looking for suggestion (recomendations) between Canon 75-300mm IS and Sigma 135-400mm zoom. Not sure how good either are, and if anyone has any knowledge about either I would appreciate their input. Thought about the Canon 70-200 f4L but I would like to get up in the 300-400 focal length, anyway info or any pics from these lens would be greatly appreciate
THANX

Canon 75-300mm is a 4X zoom, whereas Sigma 135-400mm is practically a 3X zoom. In general, a zoom with a small magnification factor will give you sharper pictures. With Canon, IS is a plus.

Your choice also depends on which digital SLR you have. Others will give you more input.

The Canon 100-400 IS L is a super lens. The following pictures were taken with it:

once again I forgot an important fact in my post..I would be using this lens on a 10D..I don't have over a thousand dollars to spend on a lens right now otherwise i would buy a Canon L zoom with IS, I'm just hoping someone out there who is using any of these lens could share some info with me prior to me buying one.
Thanks for your reply!!

Hi,

The Sigma is a very good lens, I used to have a normal 75-300 from Canon and it was very soft and had low contrast.

Please look at www.doorhof.nl for some shots with the 135-400 look at the SCE folder.

Greetings,
Frank

Not 100% what you are looking for, but I can recommend the Sigma 28-300 f3.5-6.3 ASPHERICAL COMPACT HYPERZOOM (http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/a_pages/28300comp.htm) for a good basic zoom lense. No HSM or IS though.

I find it works well on the 10D and covers most of my zoom work. I use the Sigma 17-35 for wide angle work.

Cheers
