I managed to get Media access to this event yesterday. Havnt been so wet in a long time, dont think their was a dry spot on my body. Rain finally let up about 5pm, about 30 mins before the end.

Here are a few of my photos. Lots more at http://www.chrispowellphotography.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=13

C&C welcome.

Chris

An enjoyable and varied set Chris.

The main difficulty at track & field events is dealing with the terrible backgrounds. #1, #4, #6 and #11 in particular all have distracting elements in them. Next time you have access to the infield, try to shoot from some different locations and angles.. shoot at your longest focal length wide open... get lower... get higher... crop tighter in camera... etc... etc... It's not easy though

Glad to hear you had the backing of a publication for this shoot. Who were you shooting for?

cheers gavin. I know what you mean about the backgrounds, I was aware of this, but it was not always easy to get a better location. This was my first event with this type of access, I didnt want to get in the way of the other photog's there.
I'm pretty happy with the photos I got, but there are a few as you say with backgrounds which are far too distracting.

I was taking shots for the University, I graduate soon, so thought I'd try to get access before I left.

Thanks again.

Thanks everyone for the comments. These are just a few I grabbed to post here, I really like the hurdles one too. You can the rest of this race over on my gallery if you so wish.

When i get the chance im gonna straighten it up a little, need to go back to the RAW file though. so will put it off for the mo.

Thanks for the mention Chris. I must try and get a Media Pass next time - I'll have a word with my contacts at the Union. Was very hard to get anything interesting from behind the fences, although I did try and sneak my way in-field. :-)

Anyway, stunning pictures. Well done. Look forward to shooting together again soon.
