Hi all - just about to dip my toe in the Mark2N water, but wanted to check if there were any rumours floating about re: a new model/upgrade/whatever anytime in the near future? Obviously I don't want to splash out that amount of cash and then find something newer and shinier appears two months down the line... Any feedback appreciated.

It just came out last fall. I don't see an upgrade coming anytime soon. It was the upgrade. Just make sure it does everything you want it to. If so, then don't worry about what's coming.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. :-)

Nothing short of this fall or next February - and even then, I don't see it happening as Ronald said.

Besides, you can't shoot with a rumor. ;)

Unlikely before next year some time, at which time, press reports have it (see Popular Photography couple of months back and current PC Photo) Canon will make some fairly extensive changes to the technologies they use in a number of parts of their cameras.

buy it and enjoy it, no point in holding on for the next best thing when you can have fun right now. worst comes to worst, later on sell your 1dmk2n and pick up the new one. i just bought the 1dmkII and i can say that it is just superb..

buy a good condition used one now, then you won't take a loss if you decide to sell it for the newer model when it does eventually come out. Though I plan on keeping mine as a backup till she finally gives out

No matter if you buy a new or a used 1dMKII N you will not regret it,as the old saying goes you get what you pay for.Upgraded from the 20D about 6 months back and was very nervous about the cost of the 1DMKII N and could not see the huge jump in price from the 20D but as soon as it was charged up and i started using it the price tag was more than justified IMHO.

Seriously... I'm jaded now. Not that a D30 is the best thing to compare to a 1D2N, but I find going back to the consumer bodies painful.

Ditto. I still enjoy my XT, but geez, that thing is tiny after carrying the 1D around for a while.

It's too light, the screen is itty-bitty, the viewfinder is cramped... Yep, I got spolied in a hurry. :D

Like the other guys have said, if that's the camera you want, buy it and use it. I can tell you right now there's something new coming. What it is, I don't know, but there's always something new coming.

If you buy the hottest 4Ghz gaming PC you can find right now, in ten months there'll be a 4.8Ghz. And after that there'll be a 5.2 Ghz.

I bought a point-and-shoot six years ago, when 1.3MP was not far off from top of the line. Within a year they had 3MP, and a year after that there were 4 and 5MP.

The 1D won't stop taking pictures the moment a new model is released. It'll keep working for as long as you take care of it and keep giving it batteries and memory. There's still hundreds of people using D60s, 10Ds and even first-gen (non MkII) 1D and 1Ds's. There's still people using the old Kodak/Canon first-ever SLR digitals, even though they're only 3MP.

If you need, or want, something currently on the market, buy it. As above, you can't take pictures NOW with a camera that doesn't exist yet.

I totally agree. I got my MkIIN after i felt the price had dropped enough for me to get one, and I know that Canon will eventually release a better camera. Canon always does. It's what they do.

Two weekends ago I shot a wedding with a professional wedding photographer who uses Nikon gear. He had a D2HS, and a D200. I was shooting with a 1DmkIIN and my classic 1D. He was complaining about having to work with huge RAW files after the wedding, which was a PITA compared to the small 4MB RAW files his D2HS produced. I feel the exact same way really. It's great when I'm after that last ounce of IQ, but really when it's covering a wedding or event, and I am just grabbing record shots, I don't need a 8MB RAW file, and unless my computer can process everything much more quickly, I don't think I will need higher resolution. I hardly print larger than A3 size anyway, and for this, the MkIIN will serve well for years to come, even if newer, better cameras are released.
