Canon fd 50mm 1:1.8 on a 300D. I am the newest of newbies when it comes to digital SLR. I want more lenses, just don't know enough about them to know what to get!!! This website is awesome and I am learning a lot by reading!

No this lens will not work unless you purchase an adapter which will reduce image quality, however you may find a second hand canon adapter that shouldn't reduce the quality.
Only EF and EFS Lens i believe will work on the 300d
Search forum or ebay for one..

it will only work with an adaptor... not worth it IMO.
if you want a 50mm 1.8 go for the canon EF version, or even better get the 50 1.4.
and welcome to the forum!

Nope, won't work. EF and EFS lenses only.

no, fd lenses are for fd mount cameras. you could in theory find an adapter, but they are very scarce and you'd lose AF and possibly metering.
look for EF or ef-s lenses for your camera. there is a ef version of the lens available new for ~$80

No. Canon's FD mount lenses are for an earlier generation of Canon cameras, which didn't have AF and used mechanical connectoions between the camera and lens. They also expected a thinner body than the EOS cameras have, so adapters aren't economically feasable (the ones that work act as teleconverters or extension tubes in addition to connecting the lens and body).
The EF 50 f/1.8 which will work on your 300D runs in the neighborhood of $70-$80 US, new.

Note: Canon's FD-EF adapter wouldn't fit this lens anyhow. The other adapters out there tend to be trash.

It'll work provided you get an adapter. Canon makes one as do several third-parties. In the end, it's really just not worth it (at least for Canon FD lenses) as the image quality is pretty horrible. Plus you'll need to manually focus, meter stopped-down and change apertures manually as well.
I've tried it on my D30 and all my FD lenses (including L glass) and I never use it.
