I have the dangest time trying to keep track of files. To have the file structure by date, event name, peoples name, subject, etc...

Then there's the RAW file, the first-fifth gen modification then the final.

What works for you? I'm at wit's end....being A.D.D. doesn't help either

Any screen shots of a nice architecutre would be great!

Thanks,
Robert

I create folders called "Archive xxx" and keep these to the size of a single DVD-R, for easy backup. Within that I have folders by shoot, for example "Park 052206" and two (or more) directories below that. Typically "RAW" and "Processed."

For cataloging, I use iView MediaPro.

ahem.
My "system" is to name the files by date (ie. 05.22.06 001, 05.22.06 002, ) and I have a folder for each month, inside of a folder for each year, inside of a folder for each "subject" ...

Inside the 'month' folder I may have a "processed" folder or a "print" folder so that I know which pics that month I liked enough to print - I have yet to print any in 3 years.

But when I do .. I'll be all set :)

Mine is similar. I have a folder for each year. Inside of that is a folder with each shoot, labeled with date and subject (ex. 2006-05-22 - Sunset) Inside of that is a folder called 'RAW Original', then one called 'Edits'.

Each 'version of a file in the Edits Folder has a numeric inrement (ex. CRW_1214(Edit-01).tif), and so on.

Thanks for your methods. I think my problem is that I change my mind on how I want to do it now and then. Consistency can be a good thing ;)

I just batch my images in directories of 200 with sub-directories for the processed JPG and the RSP recipe file (/RWS and /Converted). Then I import the images into PSE3 Organizer and Tag them by multiple categories (place, person, type etc). I think that categorizing images is such a multi-dimensional problem that it cannot be satisfactorily achieved in a single-dimensional directory structure.
