I took this picture on Sunday and about 5am
I wanted to catch the sun rising up on the East coast of England.
Using an ND8 filter I intended to slow down the motion of the waves to capture movement and get a misty effect.
I wish I could have slowed it down further still but I was already on f22 and about 1.3 secs.
Can you tell me what you think?

As they said is "Robocop", I LIKE IT!
I would like to see more density in the sky and burn the left 1/3, but this is a stunner. Very nice catch.
Rad
PS - Awww, man! Now I am going to have to move from the West Coast to the East Coast, and it is a heck of a lot further away here in the USA than in England.

Thanks,
I had a play with curves etc to bring up the impact.
Now looks a bit more sureal and alien but what do you think?

This might be where I would head, but as I mentioned on another post, lately I have been preferring darker shots.

Radtech I see what you mean about the dark shot. It does kinda add a certain something thats true!
Sharyn let try your idea out.
Hmm Dont know what to think.. Is it too dark? does it lose something in the conversion?

Hmmm, B&W highlights those stones in the foreground, they keep drawing my eyes to them. I do like the shaft of light in #3 and its a pitty you loose this in the B&W.

I prefer the color, but not too surrealist. I really like the way the sunlight hit the tip of the small wave in the foreground. I think you'd have lost some of teh quality if it were slower/creamier from longer exposure.
Nice capture.

DavidLee, what seems to jump out in this photo is the wisp of sunight in the crest of the crashing wave. Great capture, and I like the ND effect.

I like this shot a lot...I edited it a bit in Photoshop, here is what I came up with:

I like your original and the work that Radtech1 & David Lee did to it. On your reworked version, I think the deep blue sky is too unnatural.

My favourites are yours, David, the second one you referred to as 'alien' and the BW one. Good work. :)

it might just be me, but I really like the overall lightness (is that a word?) in your original. And I definitly perfer it in color. I think you loose the mood of this scene in B&W. I wish I could see something like that! Really I would like to just be sitting right there in a soft robe drinking a cup of hot, hot coffee!!!! OK, its got me dreaming... Great shot!

That is an amazing photo.
It feels so "calm" - I especially love the sun on the sand :)
I personally like MJC's conversion (maybe if the sand was lighter) - it gives the photo a very "rich" look. Sort of like an image you would see on an inspiriational poster ;) Where the original photo looks like something I'd see in a vacation brochure :)

Kathy,
First off thanks for the nice words.
Secondly I'd like to tell you that I had that shot in mind to take before I actually took it but the truth is I never really knew what I was going to expect on that beach.
A lot of the great shots we take are by chance aren't they? I mean we just go through what we have been taught to do and set up the tripod and fire away hoping that something will turn out supurb.
I never noticed that glint of light in the foreground and was so pleased about it when I got back home.
The thing to remember is that this is England and the beutifull images are not as much in abundance as in more tropical parts of the world.
I guess I was lucky but I also think I got that shot because I owned an alarm clock :D .
I would never had got that picture at 12 noon:( .
So my advice would be to get to the scene at unholy times such as 5am when I took this and maybe, just maybe something magical will happen.

I will take the picture and show you what I mean about boosting it in BW. With your clouds I think that a good contrasty BW shot would emphasize the mood (i.e. Ansel Adams). But I would keep a spare in color. I will fix it up and show you the difference.

it take alot of PP work to get the image I am seeing when I look at this and it is easier to show you that to explain, but the composition is stunning.

Both images are great Sharyn, I love what you have done with the B/W but I do still prefer the colour version simply because of the colour of the water and the amber glint of light in the sea.
Usually the seas around Britain are muddy brown in colour so it was refreshing to have this shot.

Some of the PP shots are good, but the original image does it for me. Good work David !

What an amazing photo! You could sell it, it would make an amazing inspirational type poster. I love all the PP efforts, especially radtech's dark one, MJC's color one and Sharyns' B&W one.

I very much like the first one. Great feel and colors. It has a dreaming quality to it. The B&W does nothing for me and interesting to see some of the variations, some good, but I am really enchanted by your original.
