Pekka

would you consider a Photoshop fourm? I would find it usefull as I am about to get it, I think others would to, I know you have a 'software' fourm but it would be nice to have a fourm dedicated to Photoshop, thanks, Ian.

An excellent idea! I am an idiot with this software ... and I need help!

I am soon getting a PS "lesson" from a friend that has mastered it for his job, but I had to bribe him with free beer, a live game of English footy off the dish and a two hour stint in my sauna. : )

If anybody is looking for a support forum on an Adobe product, why not start there? Asking a Canon forum to handle an Adobe product seems odd.

?? Bob, what are you talking about? , the reason for a fourm is to interact on a personel level with other fellow enthusists, I mean would you ask Canon"which lens is sharper, your 100mm macro or the Sigma 105 macro", anyways, its not that I want support, but tips, tricks, "help! get me unstuck" and that sort of thing

Let me explain. If you were trying to fix your auto, and it was the GM Chevy brand, then you would likely find the news forum for GM autos, and you would ask your question there.

You would not likely go to the Microsoft news forum and ask them if they support Chevy autos.

This is a news forum for Canon EOS digital cameras, so it is a perfect place to ask Canon-related questions.

If you are looking for a news forum for Adobe, then why not look for an Adobe Photoshop forum? It's only logical.

If Pekka is willing to sponsor, we may see many participants. It would not be a forum for all photoshop questions, but for Canon users trying to salvage bad shots and improve OK shots, and even manipulate good shots.

If there are not many participants in that forum, they can continue to ask photoshop questions in this forum.

Ifurlong, since you started it, why don't you ask Pekka for a Photoshop Forum for Canon users?

OK, should I email him directly? or how do I do that

I've worked with Photoshop since version 1.0 and it's a rather large task to work with a group that is at so many different levels of experience. What is boring to some may be electrifying to others.

It's also a GIANT timekiller to illustrate the step-by-step procedures necessary for even the simplest of tasks. Photoshop is sort of like life in that your tasks can be done almost any old way you can imagine. Some work better than others but they all get the job done. It might be better, although I won't swear to it, to ask some specific questions about procedures and problems you have with the program.

The suggestions to go to the Adobe specific sites is also most definitely the most valid approach. Pekka is already providing an enormous resource in this site. I may be liberally flamed for this but I wouldn't ask such a thing of anyone. Photoshop is wonderfully powerful and incredibly complex. I'm retired and I wouldn't want to be charged with preparing lessons in Photoshop.

Just my opinion,
Fred Lord

Ifurlong,

Pekka's web site gives this address for feedback:

photography@studio-on-the.net

If set up, its primary purpose is a quick answer to burning questions, rather than extended lectures, just like this one. Many experts are volunteering their time free of charge.

Digital cameras do only half the job. The other half is done by photo software such as Photoshop. Thus, there is need for a forum for this interface between digital photography and photo enhancement after the fact.

If there is demand, somebody will sooner or later provide the service. If Pekka had not started this photography on the net, someone else would have done it. It might have taken a few more days, weeks or months. If it is not needed, it does not matter who starts it. It will die.

This forum is my one-stop shop for all my digital camera questions (mainly because I'm a 10D owner). But I would love to see the addition of a photoshop discussion area on this forum so that I don't have to go elsewhere, it's as simple as that. Why not?

Just to add to the discussion, I would be happy with a PS board on this forum but thinking about it, why stop there? What about PSP, Image Ready, Elements or PS?

It's a huge and complex task but I also think that users are free to choose to view/participate on any discussion. That's where the discussion Subject is useful (Oh! how I wish people would use it inteligently!)

Add to that the Adobe forum is fabulous. 2nd best to this one in my book. They have a really helpful/knowledgeable group of contributers but can IMHO be a little impatient with newbies at times.

Elements is great! (does 2.0 have Curves?) I would suggest that you might get all you need for photo retouching without forking out big bucks for PS 8.0. Having said that, Bring it on Adobe!

Why not use the software forum, immediately below the EOS-D(igital) forum on the index page? If that is too general, then I agree with Bob that you should try Adobe's forum.

Martin: check out Richard Lynch's book "The Hidden Power of PS Elements 2" and you can have curves and much more. Here is the author's site: http://www.hiddenelements.com/

For many years, I have been involved with technical support in another industry. For part of that time, I had to help staff a 24-hour support phone line for Brand X products. I was constantly amazed at how many times the caller would ask questions about Brand Y or Brand Z that had nothing to do with my employer, Brand X. I would suggest to them that they ought to contact Brand Y or Brand Z directly, but they claimed that they could never get a straight answer, so they contacted Brand X out of desperation or because we didn't charge any fee for telephone support.

I think that if I had an Adobe question, I would start with Adobe. I know that is a novel approach.

My vote is a big ole YES. (with ability to post downloadable actions, curves, etc).
