I've got a 30D and am curious about hand straps. Does anybody have a recommendation?
I don't have a battery grip and have found some that connect on such cameras. I don't plan on getting a grip.

For example...

wasn't comfortable? You mean specifically the one I linked or another kind?

Didn't check link the 1st time. Yes, I got that exact same one and it wasn't comfortable. I was getting cramps reaching for the shutter button. BTW, I have very thick hands.

I have one very similar, the Hakuba. I've always liked it, and right now it's on my 20D.

I just got the new RRS B30D body plate for my 30D, which now has a lug for a hand strap:

I'll be ordering the Canon hand strap to use with it.

Does anyone have the one that is offered, but not yet supplied by the POTN shop? I think there is one like it in the B&H catalog. I was wondering if it works on my 20D without a grip and is it comfortable? I need one very badly.

I was recommended this one by condyk:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7584853348&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:31

Real leather. I'm almost ordered one, but now thinking if I'll actually need the thing.

That's the Op/Tech:

Adorama has it:

I also use the one by Hakuba, works really well for me. I have small hands however and I can see how it would be difficult to use for someone with big hands.

Does anybody have a picture of the Hakuba attached to a 20D/30D?
The Op-Tech one looks pretty weird!! Enough material there? Wouldn't that start to get hot?

I have the Hakuba aswell, but I have the one with the wrist strap (http://www.hakubausa.com/csite/c_products3.asp?cc=50&cs=50). Personally, its a life saver because I spend a lot of time shooting my young neices and nephews, and a very playful and tuff dog. Both can be pretty curious around a relatively big camera. The strap helps the camera stay in my hands.

The one mentione by Doc is a great buy. Holds the camera secure with a wrist strap. Better than the Canon versions I have had in the past. Great price.

Same here, although for 10 UK pounds (including shipping) it seems like a nice buy anyway. :)

Heh...that's for my SD450...works nicely to hold the DSLR for photos of the camera.

Thanks for the pic!
So the base plate attaches to the tripod mount and locks with a spring pin in the grooves on the bottom of the camera body?
And there's a new tripod mount on the underside of the base plate so you can obviously attach it to a tripod with the hand strap attached?

Do you find that the Hakuba has a descent range of adjustment? If you have big/small hands, adjusting to fit isnt' a problem?

Looks pretty good to me.
If anyone doesn't like the Hakuba (like the one shown in pic without wrist part) for some reason, let me know.

Yes the base plate of the hand strap attaches to the tripod. It has plenty of room for adjustment to fit all hand sizes. It is well worth the $ IMHO.

I like the tamron hand strap. It attaches directly to the rings for the strap, is adjustable, and has quick disconnects. It is loose, so I can slip my hand into it quickly. It also uses the same disconnects as tamron's neck strap, so all I have to do is remove the hand strap via the quick disconncts, and attach the neck strap when I plan to hike.

For the best hand strap on the market check out: http://www.camdapter.com

Also available are camera plates for mounting your hand strap without using the grip.

Thats a tamrac strap :D

Do you have a grip for your camera? Camera's without grips don't have a lower hole for handstraps, so you can't use them without some sort of adapter.

This looks like the same handstrap that is offered by GoShot. They have two models.
I use the Sunpak with no BG and a neckstrap, which was tough, but with needle-nose pliers and patience you can get the job done.

The only problem I see with the camdapter is that it costs a minimum of $60.00 to do what the other third party handstraps do for $15.00.
It appears to look a little nicer.
If that's worth four times as much, I guess is up to you.

4th vote for Hakuba; which you don't see when filtering; but can while searching for it.

It looks weird, because it needs to be to fit well. I have used it most of the time with the 20D.

I now have the 30D, and am eagerly awaiting arrival of the RRS B30D-L plate with the wrist-strap loop.

There is still one problem - there are times when I want to use the POTN neck strap. Trying to push straps through those damnable slots in the field is so difficult it cannot be reasonably done. Op/Tech have "system connectors" - a mating pair of straps. I have the 3/8th ones coming so that the pair can be used for the wrist strap, and can be snapped undone and the neck strap attached to the top end of the wrist-strap strap.

I've got the Matin leather hand strap with wrist strap.
Wouldn't use one without the wrist strap.
Looks like that one Doc recommends.
