Hi, I'm new here, though I think I know some of you here from other forums. Here's a recent G1 macro picture of mine taken with a +4 closeup lens. Please comment if you'd like:

Beautiful!

Id like to see the background a bit more blurred but this is a great shot. Do you know what focal length it was shot at?

Thanks Rick! This was shot at F4, 1/100 sec, 102mm, +4 B&W diopter, manual focus, handheld.

With the subject this low to the ground, there isn't much possibility to blur the background on a G1. You need a longer focal length (around 200mm), wider aperture, or both. Or the background a yard or more away (impossible). I suppose I could have used a B300 plus the diopter. Wider aperture would leave me with no DOF, at F4 there is darn little. The only real alternative is to put down cloth (burlap?) as a background or try Photoshop. I tried a Gaussian blur on the background, but it gets the edges of the flower as well.

Hi Tom!

Nice to see you and your pictures here. :)

I can't wait until we have bugs and flowers around here.

I just got the Hoya +5 multicoated and it sure is a sharp lens...edge to edge it appears.

Hopefully will find something (anything!) to shoot tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi Robert! I was hoping you'd check in on this thread. Spring is really happening here now, so it can't be long for you further north. It's still annoying for me to see nature pictures from places like Texas- there the blackberies are ripe, which won't happen here in Mass until July or so.

First or all, Fototime links are non-standard, you have to remove the parenthesis to make it a correct address.

http://www.fototime.com/09CD7BDF-B456-4191-8F33-6379F2172866/picture.JPG

Then see help link on top of this page and see how tag IMG is used around the url to make the picture appear here directly.

Nice garden scene, rhb! I've only recently realized what a haven Texas is for wildflower and garden lovers...
