Just FYI, 10D purchased yesterday from Henry's in Ottawa, Canada - 0 dead/0 hot pixles in 1/30, 1, 2 and 3 sec exposures (with f3.5 28-105 EF lens) very happy with build quality now time to start saving for a L lens!!
NOW HOW ABOUT COMPACT FLASH AND THE 10D?
Is the 10D WA enabled?
Can anybody comment on weather high speed cards like Sandisk Ultra Extreme or Lexar 40X WA cards make a difference in camera performance?
Cheers

The standard card's speed is 4X.
Lexmark's fast speed cards are either 40X (512 MB, for instance) or 32X (1GB). If a card is slightly faster than 4X, it is not worth the premium. With Lexmark, you would see the pic in LCD immediately (That was just my impression).
I bought the latter 2 weeks ago. It seems to write faster (but probably not 8 times faster than the standard). This may be useful if you are shooting many shots (as in the servo mode) at a sports event. Slow CF could slow you down.
I may be mistaken, but the speed may refer to the transfer speed, from the disk to a PC or laptop. Of course, you need USB 2 also. If you take hundreds of shots regularly, it may be a good choice. I paid too much for it in Amsterdam, because I could not find it at Best Buy.

Remember that you camera writes to it's buffer memory first & then the buffer writes to the card. The speed difference will only be seen in how fast your buffer empties.

The 10D can not take FULL advantage of the higher speed cards. It's top speed in writing is limited. Between a standard Sandisk card and a 32X Lexar my own tests with a stop waqtch revealed maybe a 10% increase in write speeds (burst of 9 raw files and timed untill all writing was completed) so you pay for an 800% increase,. and get only about 10% In camera.

Thanks CDS. I guess what I am really interested in is shortening the time the camera takes to display a "crisp" LCD image after the "fuzzy" preview image (see lightandlife's post above). In general the multiprocessing is more than adequate for rapid picture taking (unless you are always shooting in 9 picture bursts...)
Also, i hear that the regular Sandisk are 4X and wouldnt a 40X card be 10 times faster for image transfer to computer if you were using a USB2 or firewire reader?

I think people pay premium for the fast transfer speed. They don't want to wait when hundreds of pics are being downloaded.
