Because I had no bees and insects available and wanted to post something quick I took a shot of Joey our cat.
While it's in no way a perfect shot, the detail and contrast are jawdropping on my monitor, this betters the 70-210f2.8 from Sigma in normal mode (can't wait to macro with it).
On the web version ALOT of detail is lost, but still I have posted it.
Greetings,
Frank

I am simply blown away by the detail in the eyes. Would there be any chance at all of seeing the original image? (or a high quality fill size jpeg if you shot raw)
I am on the lookout for a macro lens and the tamron was on my list to consider.

I have what might be a very stupid question (actually several) regarding these macro lenses.
I have been following for several days now the discussions on the macro lens and in particular the 1:1 business. Mattchase gave a very nice explanation of the meaning of 1:1 in an earlier thread. He mentioned a 20mm spider on a 22mm sensor and said the spider's image would cover 20mm of the 22mm sensor.
My stupid question is, doesn't this depend on how far the spider is from the lens? I am missing something. Perhaps the spider takes 20mm when at the closest distance an object can be to the lens and still focus, which with the Tamron lens I believe it was earlier stated to be 11 inches.
Could I also ask in the photo posted above how close was the lens from the cat? and would there be any advantage in a shot like this with the macro lens over a "standard" 90mm prime lens? I realize generally you will probably use this lens for smaler objects as you mentioned in the original posting above.
Hopefully my questions are too silly.
P.S. There is very nice detail and I'm sure the larger files are incredible in detail.

Hi,
I don't know where the 11" comes from, maybe TO the sensor, but I can focus on objects as close as 2 cm from the lens :D.
The sample shot was given to show the quality of the optics, believe me on macro's it's even better, I will post something Monday.

Frank,
the following is off an earlier posting of yours titled "Delimma difference Sigma ..."
"My current lens will focus from 19" away the macro's from 11" away, that's not really shocking in difference."
As you imply above not much of a difference. But that 11" is misleading you can acutally focus within 2 cm with this lense? and you have no idea of the meaning of the 11"?
Thanks, Jim

Hi,
According to the website of Tamron and even the box that's the truth, however in practise I can almost touch my subject, using the hood is impossible (so close).
It will focus however from all distances.

Thanks, that was just enough information to make a spoof of your son's identity on IRIS-scan devices ;)
Incredible great details on this one! :)

Congrats on the Tamron 90mm 1:1. You'll probably love yours as much as I love mine.
I like to use mine mainly for portraits as the focusing distance gets very close when approaching 1:1 magnification. It's hard not scare those bees away. And wow, does the lens "grow" when focussing in real close!
Trivia: among lenses in the 85mm to 135mm range, with 2.8 max aperture, this lens got a 4.61 (excellent) rating on www.photozone.de from 72 respondents in the performance survey - bettered only by the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro and the Canon 100mm 2.8 "USM" macro. Definitely good value for your hard-earned Dollar...or Euro.

Even the web version that you posted here has an incredible amount of detail. I can't imagine how much more detail the original must have. Nice work.

I also did not understand that.
Maybe they mean the distance to the sensor.
Because I can't even use my hood when getting real close, it focusses to arround 3-4 cm.

Frank
