I have been searching for a good quality wide angle lens for my new G2..I have tried the Kenko .5x the Tiffen .5x and the canon .8x...The Kenko and Tiffen wide angle lenses were a great dissappointmen...The canon is okay but not wide enough..Does anyone have any other suggestions ? How about the Raynox .66x? Has anyone tried this one or have any comments? Thanks Howard

hi, i'm sorry but i cannot help you; i've your trouble too; i've asked in all forums about telephoto for my g1 but nobody answered me; i asked for brand name like hoya, kenko, raynox, but nobody answered me; i asked for italian seller (i'm italian) but nobody answered me; i'm searching for a g1 adapter (like lensmate) but italy is a poor market; so, i'm sorry but i cannot help you; bye and good luck

p.s.: why don't you like kenko and tiffen (i'd buy kenko 3x for me)

Please check out www.2filter.com
They are a retail store that specializes in filters located in Connecticut. You can email them. The owner John mentioned to me the other day about a Japanese co. wide angle that is good for the Canon G2... they ship * immediately *, free shipping for orders over $50. This is not an online discount firm ! I just purchased the Super HMC Hoya UV filter for my new G2 and am trying out the 'Moose polarizer filter' just for fun. Also ordered the Hoya Close-up kit.
Hope this suggestion helps you !

Do a search for "wide angle lens" on the canon talk forum at www.dpreview.com.

basically:

(1) Kenko, Raynox and Kodak Ektanar- SUCK. not sharp enough, bad distortion and CA. Avoid at all costs.

(2) Tiffen megapplus 0.75x WA (and 2x tele)- pretty good. slight vignetting, and can't zoom back at all. but good enough for me (and most non-pro users)

(3) Canon 0.8x- pretty good. but expensive and not very wide.

i think the tiffen (around $80 USD) is your best bet. 43mm thread size so you'll need a step down ring- best to get the Lensmate and a 49mm stepdown ring.

People - check out this site - it compares the pictures of the Canon 1.5x Teleconverter (TC-DC5, the Olympus 1.7x Teleconverter (B-300), and the Tiffin 2x Teleconverter!

These are some of the best lenses - and you can see it for yourself.
