I recently shot some dog agility competitions with my 10D. There were several people who wanted pics of thier dogs. I am trying to figure out a good way these people can just look at them online. I looked into dotphoto.com and it seems great, but I don't want to post process all my photos before uploading them. I only post process what people want.

Short of paying for my own website, should I just use one of the free online storage places. Give people the link and then just have them email me the file name???

I'm sure other people out there are doing the same, would appreciate some idea's.

Thanks

I think you should postproess all your shots. Even if the pics are not wanted the overall quality is important.
I have my website at gisol.com for reasonable rates.
Normally I upload the shots in limited quality, so that people can download and print on 4x6. Any larger print can be ordered.

http://www.pbase.com gives you 30 day storage free.
You can try and get feedback. If there is little feedback, you would not have lost anything. If the response is good, you can buy storage. Annual storage is $23 up to 100 or 300 mega bytes.

Another online photo site is www.fotop.net. As it is based in Hong Kong, I am not sure whether the online performance is also good when you access in US or Europe.

Here's another one I've found. I haven't used it yet. Apparently you get 250mb free, so its got to be worth looking at. It's based in the UK, so performance may be restricted from other countries.

Recently I refined the comparison table of online photo hosting service providers and you may refer to this thread below:

No one has mentioned www.webshots.com. One of the largest sites for storing pictures, private or public.

I use webshots, tried fotopic but my favorite for online storage & viewing is SmugMug. You can see what is looks like at my gallery. http://prphoto.smugmug.com/
Unlimited space, super ease of use. Printing available. Can upload full size, smugmug will resize for viewing with the option to view larger or original size. I like the layout of showing thumbnails (sm, med, or large) so people can see what you have without going thru many multiple pages.
You can even do online photo effects (b/w, sepia, etc.)

personally, I've been very happy with pbase. The web performance has been excellent & they generate the thumbnails for you.

Are you looking to make money or just to get people pictures? If you aren't into making money and don't want to mess with the logistics taking orders and filling them you might try Shutterfly. I have uploaded to shutterfly before and placed them in a shared folder to allow my family to go browse the pictures and buy what they want in what ever size they want. I was very happy with the quality of pictures as large as 11X14 (they can go bigger, just never had a reason to). Plus the people will get 15 free 4X6's for signing up!

Hope this helps...

Since 2 years I'm with www.imageevent.com. You can store 1500 pictures for $25 a year. The site can be used as public gallery or private with passwaord. You can set up as many albums as you want, each is password protected. You can disable the ability to order pics, you can disable right click. I think it's worth to check this out.

Personally I have been using this online storage (http://www.ibackup.com) service to store my photographs for some time now. The stored photographs can be accessed from any where using a web browser and Internet connection. The features that make this service attractive for photo storage is the Thumbnail gallery view for your stored photos. You can click on the thumbnails to have a bigger preview and even set a slide show for your stored photographs. You can even create sharable links to share these photos with your friends to view them.

I've tried most of the US based services and there just isn't anything that compares to PBase.com for speed and reliability. You can grow old waiting for S***mug and F***kr to display images...even with T-1 service...heaven help anyone with dial-up, as they will do more than grow old.

A week ago I switched to a free one -- www.mygraphix.com

Made for hotlinking only more or less. There's no similarity to PBase type with the 3 sizes auto generated etc.

I'll second all that for smugmug. Go check out their forum at dgrin.com to see more and see some satisfied customers.
