I don't see that as surprising. There has to be a wide margin in the number of digital cameras sold compared to the number of film cameras sold. Canon is a business, and as such should make their decisions based on where the market is headed...

Remmember, halting development and halting production are two different things. I'm sure they'll continue to produce film and film cameras for a while.
