Check this photo out.. this model is new to the scene and this is her third shoot with me now ( iahev posrted a couple of other photos up online of her before). She is getting much more comfortable in front of the camera and much more relaxed now.
Comments / critiques please.
How could this photo be improved? Would YOU include it in her portfolio?
I particularly like the look on her face.
Cheers

Two words: Diana Krall.
It's a beautiful pic, although in my own opinion, I'm not sure I would use it in her portfolio.
It's gorgeous though. I love the open shirt.

Thanks for the compliment. Why wouldn't you use it in her portfolio? What doesnt work that would not see it in there?
Thanks for your reply.

No. She looks very uncomfortable, the image is too soft - no point looks in focus. Her hands are awkward.
In most models portfolios that I have shot, the model is not looking directly at the camera except for the occasional headshot. The shots should look natural, as if you weren't there interacting with her.
This same sort of thing would have been much more natural if she had been looking out to sea, perhaps moving her hair with one hand or both even.
Look at a bazillion other successful models portfolios to see what works and what has been chosen to include.

RedShoesGirl pretty much summed it up. There was just something about it that turned me off the portfolio pic. I didn't recognise it before, but I see now that it's that she doesn't look very comfortable.

yes, there is a stiffness to the model and a detached sort of look in her eye. i personally do not care for the way that her shirt is; the way that it hangs is awkward. it is not a very natural or casual style of dress.

She's a beautiful model, but I agree that there's something not quite natural. I'm not a model photographer so you can take my comments with a grain of salt. But, she has kind of an innocence in her face that seems to conflict with the seductive open shirt. Do you know what I mean? Maybe it would have worked better if she were looking out to the ocean or adjusting her hair or lying on the beach or something. And if it didn't work out to give it a little more of a natural sexy feel, then I'd go the other way and close the shirt to make it less revealing and a little more more "cute". Does that make any sense? I know it's one thing to envision the shot and another to actually create it with that feel. But, keep working with her, I think there's a lot of potential there.

Thanks guys. She sure is a beautiful girl. I have photographed a lot of models in my time, but this one is the most photogenic one so far. Maybe its becuase im getting to know her that her photos look better to me im not sure (hence putting the photo here) but from where I am sitting I wouldnt see a much finer subject than Sarah. My wife agrees too and she is the biggest critic of all.
I really like the innocence in her face and the sexy pose together. I think it gives a good contrast to the photos. I know some people think it looks out of place, but I think that looks good and as a photographer im trying to develop my own style. Im not really into following the rest type ideas. I have sold quiet a few photographs too, so I must be doing something right. I do like the opinons of the people here on the forum though.
Thanks for your inout.
Cheers
