I don't know why, but when i see many many websites i notice that 5D produce the best IQ with any lens over another DSLRs from Canon or another brands, i hope i am not dreaming or just i fantasy more.
I noticed that also... They do produce the best IQ.

may partially be psychological. as much as i respect the 5D, i had the opportunity to use a D300 and a D3 at a wedding i was shooting last week and i'll have to give credit when it's due.. nikon has done a really great job with those two. the nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 mounted on the D3 was pure magic.
i think the majority of what makes a good picture lies in the photographer, more so than the equipment. =)

If i didn't see many amazing photos from another cameras whatever they are then i will never believe your statements, but just i see many shots from different cameras, but the amount of high quality from 5D is more than another cameras from what i see, thats why i said it may that 5D doing better job more than other DSLR bodies.

If that was the case it would be much cheaper to shoot with a 10D and a handful of psychology.
As far as 5D shooting better pics, there's probably a lot more 5D's out there in the hands of amateurs than there are 1D series for example, particularly those inhabiting photo-sharing forums.

not sure what a "handful of psychology" means, but i'm just referencing the fact that a really nice picture is created through the vision of the photographer.. not so much the sharpness or color rendition of the equipment. i personally know quite a few photographers who are much more talented than i am who use an xti, and if you thumb through the really amazing pictures on some art/photo sites, they are often made with cheaper cameras. funny that you should mention the 10D because i just ran into a picture the other day which was taken by a very gifted photographer on deviantart who captioned at the bottom, "taken with my old 10D, the mk2 is in the shop for repairs! ;)"

"handful of psychology" was a bit of sarcasm, wit and a touch of humor all rolled up into a nice little phrase...heh heh. I agree with your sentiment above. I've seen inspirational images by photographers here on POTN that were capture with equipment that is inferior to what I'm using now, although you couldn't tell that by looking at the image. DozerLYP is one that comes to mind.

Japanese friends clowning around.
This was shot outdoors during the evening. Still plenty of daylight left. About 5:30 PM. My exif times are all screwed up and haven't fixed it yet.
I used a total of 5 speedlite's in this shot. 6 if you want to count the ST-E2. A 580EX I & II shooting into a silver umbrella on the right. A 550EX shooting into a white umbrella on the left. A 430EX and 420EX illuminating the background on a short light stand. Probably should've cropped it a bit but this was just a quick export from a current batch that I haven't processed yet. (I processed this one for the quick export)
Edit: I couldn't handle looking at the lop-sided frame due to the 1.6 body so I re-linked a cropped version.

Sheesh...the one above this one almost looks like a vertical pano.
I went out to shoot a pano the other day but forgot the ISO was set to 1600 from a previous shoot.....so I got a lot of wasted shots. I'm going to try adjusting the ball head every few shots to eliminate the curved look that is always typical of panos.

Did you check your histogram for proper exposure?
As for panos, the distortion can be artistic if used in the right way.

Thanks. "The Brick" is on my camera 90% of the time and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I've been thinking real hard about trying the 16-35mm f/2.8 MkII...but that's a pretty good chunk of money and I'm pretty sure it can't compete with the brick in most cases....

This is my brother in his ATV. It get's used like this more than for any other purpose.
It was a tripod-mounted pan shot. With all those little kids, he was only traveling 5 to 10mph or less. The vignetting is a PP effect, not the lens.

The focus of the 24-70 is so precise that if you were weaving a little bit while standing there at the clothes-line, you'll see it in the photo. For example, look at the clothes-line just in front of the clothes pin.

If you're not happy with the results from your lens, you might want to think about sending it in to Canon. I think they can calibrate it, which I think they don't quite do as meticulously during the mass production of the lens......

I get a lot of great shots with mine, it's my main lens at the moment. But I have noticed that that the focus can go soft or flare a little bit when doing wide-angle close-ups.

Really it is amazing to see that there are copies sharp and another copies of the same lens not that tack sharp, is it really the lens or it is something that some members didn't consider when comparing two same lenses side by side, i feel the happiest person in Canon life because all my gear is working fine and lenses are sharp even my crap lenses 18-55 and 28-90 and sigma 12-24, even my 350D is a fun if i use it for macro, so i just enjoy my lenses and i don't care about what people here talking about softness of any lens.

I think lots of people test lenses shooting handheld and dont realize how narrow DOF can be. A little sway in your stance or just a bit of subject movement and your focus is off.
All new 24-70 owners should check out the DOF calculator (http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html)

I don't think this is a case, not all people there do handheld for comparison, i am sure there are people did tripod comparisons and still not find sharp results as they want.
I think if they stop worry and that softness junky stories then they will be fine, and if they are pixel peeper then it will be difficult for them to be happy with many lenses or gear.

I do think this is the case, but not all the time. Yes there are people who actually have softer copies of many lenses, but I believe there are many more that experience this softness because of DOF issues (user error). As far as pixel peepers, you are correct it's hard for them to be happy with lots of different lenses for lots of different reasons.
In any case I am happy with all of my gear :D

If you're not happy with the results from your lens, you might want to think about sending it in to Canon. I think they can calibrate it, which I think they don't quite do as meticulously during the mass production of the lens......
I'm just wonder if a soft copy can be turn into a sharp one by calibration? By the way, my copy is soft at 24mm/2.8 (in my opinion) and even softer at 72mm/2.8? It is normal?
Thank you

Yeah, I use mine far more than I anticipated I would. I was planning on getting the 16-35 f/2.8 MkII also, but decided not to because the 24-70 already does most of that range and probably does it better.
So I've got a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 on the way now. the 24-70 will still most likely be mounted on the camera most of the time.

I've been researching the Tokina lens, and there are a few users here who happily use it on 1.3 crop and full frame cameras. I think on full frame, it's usuable from 14-16mm, so it's basically like a prime. I believe Picturecrazy is one of the people here who uses it on both, and he sent me a pic with it on the 1DS MK3 and it looked fantastic!

It will definitely make you a better photographer. You can only become as good as your equipment allows. I've taken pics that I wasn't happy with at all, but I couldn't blame it on the lens. I had to blame it on ME.....the lack of good technique and just not paying attention to shutter speed and aperture settings at the time.
Incorrect aperture settings can also take the crispness out of a shot. (mostly by over-exposure)

:lol::lol:
Seriously though, the 1DS MKIII will show any flaws in a lens, I think it's a good test.... if your lens can make it "there" it can make it anywhere :)
One thing about some of these super sharp non-L lenses... while they are technically "sharp", I often find the images don't have the same "character" that some lenses like the 24-70L produce. I don't know if it's my imagination, like a placebo effect, but something seems to be missing.
I looked at dozens of pictures from the tokina 11-16 ( I am considering buying one), and they show detail out the ying yang. But, they often look a little "flat" for lack of a better word... same with the 17-55 lens. Maybe a side by side double blind comparison would eliminate that.
Radiohead369, I LOVE that coke can picture. So simple but it's really cool!

I tend to think "over done" or "too much pp" is a good thing.
Once people tend to get workflows down, they develop a style unique to themselves. If everyone post produced to proper "true to life" color, most photos would be boring and uneventful. While the human eye sees color and detail far better than a camera, the eye can't add color and saturation where it isn't. That's the beauty of pp. We can make ugly white skies blue. We can make brown grass green. We can make beauty in something that lacks it.
As long as any pp has any sort of photo-realism, it's game in my books.

correcting exposure, tweaking contrast, and bumping saturation can all make a picture look better. over sharpening, the all-too-common overzealous HDRing, and abuse of lightroom's fill light in my opinion don't represent a style.. it's just poor processing technique.
anyone can load up photoshop, add +30 hue saturation, go nuts with the sharpening tool, and use photomatix to merge three bracketed pictures. the skill comes in balancing each technique into creating a pleasant image that doesn't scream manipulated. i think it'd be a stretch to claim that an interesting picture requires punchy colors and extreme detail. some of the best photographs ever taken are simple black and white, marginally focused subjects.. but hold their claim to greatness for their composition, tone, and capture of emotion. long story short, i think the idea of "too much processing" and "overdone" images is a valid concern since many people find an interesting slider or brush in their photo editor, and completely lose sight of moderation.
edit: i just thumbed through your flickr gallery (x2x3x4x5x) and you seem to have struck a good balance between knowing when it's appropriate to utilize certain processing techniques. my criticism isn't with occasional use of photomanipulation, it's a gripe with the increasingly popular trend to apply filters and brushes on pictures that suffer from the distraction of the processing. i think photographers should look at a picture, and figure out what they're trying to bring attention to, what they're trying to say. once that's established, focus on constructively editing to bring that component into center stage. overprocessing in my opinion is when viewers notice your processing before they realize what you're trying to convey through your pictures.

Just got the lens! (well, I was out with a friend so I just opened it and slapped it on my 40D)
My impressions:
1) It's heavy. Yeah, whatever. I find the weight makes it very easy to handhold.
2) Took some shots at f/2.8 at various focal lengths. Glad to see I did NOT receive one of the rumored "bad copies" of this lens! Tack sharp photos even at ISO 1600 (it's midnight here and took this pic in a dimly lit kitchen).
3) The range is VERY pleasant on my 40D. Yeah, the Tokina 12-24 will make a welcome addition when the time comes, but I don't find it a problem at all.
Can't wait to take it around the yard tomorrow!

in that case you might just have to sell your gear to spazz after all since you'll want medium and large format equipment. ;)
Hey!...Sounds good to me. Besides Tareq, You need that 1DsMkIII NOW to capture to ultra-fine detail of sand dune landscapes. I'm sure you're losing all kinds of image quality with the 1DsMkII.....heh heh.

I really need to get my rump in gear and learn how to really shoot with this lens. There definitely is a learning curve, but when you nail it you know it! :p It's so darn easy to blame equipment though lol
Another slight crop at f/2.8

Some more. Walk in the park.
I love this lens:p
Wow...looks like you were in Amish country. The wide-screen format is interesting.
