Let me ask you experts.......do these pics look sharp to you? I am still un experienced and am not sure.
Below is a standard view and a 100% view crop. EXIF data is avail.
Thanks,
Brian:cool:

I think it's perfectly sharp for the aperture that you used......I mean good grief, you can see the dust particles on the ball. Large aperture 'equals' shallow depth of field. Try the same shot with flash at f/8. You should see a big difference.

Okay, I took the ones of the billard balls at my folks house earlier so I can't take another one right now. I just took these two with the same settings except I did this one at f/8 like you suggested. What do you think about these for sharpness?

Um...I give up. Fancy holiday liquor bottles? Heh heh.

Don't forget that you can also fine-adjust the focus before snapping the pic. When you press the shutter button halfway to set the focus, try manually adjusting the focus ring on the lens without letting go of the shutter button......then snap. It can be a useful tip sometimes.

I cut down an old raggedy tree in my backyard. Unbeknownst to me there was a squirrel's nest in it. When the particular branch hit the ground, out popped the nest and then out popped two baby squirrels. One died but the other survived and is now a happy member of the family. I missed the focus in this shot but oh well.....it was a hurried shot.

Yeah, I had two pet squirrels when I was about 12 or 13....but they definitely weren't this small... a little older. Right now he's content to take "Milk & Honey" from a syringe (without the needle) He's nibbled on a few grapes but doesn't really want anything else right now. One of his favorite places to sleep is curled up inside a shirt pocket. Right now he's nighty-night inside of a tube sock in his cage.

Hey, I've owned both and let me tell you.....they are both awesome!
I sold the 17-55 recently and kind of regret it, but so far I am happy with the 24-70. The 17-55 was ALOT easier to shoot with because I could get absolutely awesome pics in P mode as this 24-70 I really need to use M mode to get the awesome shots.

Great shots, great catch-lights and great colors. Looks good for a first session

Just a few suggestions if you don't mind:

Move the subjects away from the background. Put the background flash on a short stand just behind the subjects. You might try zooming the background flash to it's longest, most narrow range.(so the background is lit just behind the subjects, not the entire frame) Did you use a sync chord on the flash units or what?

If you let him out will he come back?

They're fun pets until they discover that they have teeth and figure out how to use them, at which point you let them go. I read online the other day that one guy had a pet squirrel for 28 years.

It's funny; my eyes immediately jumped to this photo and I thought "Norway". Then I looked below your avatar and saw that you're not from Norway, so I thought "wow, so there are places in California that look just like Norway!". THEN I saw the text " Western Norway:". :D

Beautiful capture!

I was just surfing a few sites the other day that illustrated Norway.
I think the waves in this photo was caused by the Norwegian version of the Loch Ness Monster. I can't remember it's name....but I'll throw a few letters out ther in effort...heh heh..... Sjerkwiski.

(Just kidding about the photo...it is a very nice shot.)

I actually like the one you posted here better. It makes more sense also for an album titled "Uncrowned". Is that dude 32 years old or something? Just trying to figure the significance of the bar code.

Heh, it's kind of ugly too!

I have a question for you all. With the lens hood on, do you see the external zooming? It looks like the lens hood attaches to the actual lens body, not the barrel.

No, you can't see it zooming, unless you looking into the hood. ;)

I don't see any external zooming, and yes, it is attached to the lens body so the zooming part going inside that huge hood without you notice the lens zooming.

And with that zooming, i am wondering more how they consider this lens as weather sealing, aren't the dust going inside while zooming back and forth as 100-400L?

Nope. No zooming apparent with the hood attached. The hood does attach to the lens body. Without the hood the barrel is a very obvious protrusion.

Thats what I did actually got rid of the 17-40L and received the 24-70mm today. I kind a need the extra reach. 17-40L is amazing if you pair it with the 5D which I tried with my friend's camera.

I have a question for all of you using this lens, and a circular polarizing filter with a 1.6 FOVCF body. Are any of you using B&W's "new" 4mm (thick) mount, which has front threads, and if so,have you seen any issues with vignetting ? I want to buy my 1st CPL,but don't want trouble right from the get go.

In keeping with the thread, here's a couple shots with the 24-70L 2.8

I've used my 24-70 with a B+W CPL with front threads with no sign of vignetting on my 30D. In fact there are no signs of vignetting with the same camera, CPL and my canon 10-22 @10mm.
