Thanks Tareq! :)
Here are some more. The first was taken in a blowing nor'easter on an Atlantic beach. Hard to really see in the picture, but this shot was only possible with a weathersealed combination:
http://litpixel.com/ee/images/thumb/_1D_0439.jpg (http://litpixel.com/ee/photo.php?photo=387)
Shot through a monorail window at speed, using a CPL, at Epcot. I used nothing but the 24-70mm the whole day between the MK and Epcot... It even takes pictures in very dark rides. Who needs IS? The last picture was handheld at 1/8s.

I have to play more with this lens as well.
It was my primary lens with (10-22, 16-35L) when i was in Europe, i use it mostly on one body and switch the other two on another body.

That's a great shot of your son. I love the perspective.
I have an uncle who lives in Accra. He works for Volvo, I think. He married a local lady and they have two kids. I keep saying I'll go over and visit but never do :-(

I have just received this lens today, thanks to the fabulous Kerso!
Wow- what a lens. The colours really pop, it's unbelievable.
Check out my sample pics I took around the town today, including the obligatory duck shot. Luckily I have ducks in the garden, so that was easy! These pics have been very mildly post processed- just for levels and contrast, and very little of either. Images out of my 28-135 which it is superceding took a quite a bit of processing to get looking good.

Some tip to try a copy of this lens in the store before buy.?
- Take your memory card.
- Set the camera to RAW.
- Take shots with different F-stops (from 2.8 to F11 maybe) and different shutter speeds (be sure to keep your SS about 1/60 or above higher) and keep ISO at range 100-400.
- Get back home and post your shots, then we can discuss the tips;)

One more important test is to take shots at both 24mm and 70mm and in between. My lens focused perfectly at 50mm - 70mm but backfocused real bad at the wide end.
Also, at 24mm, lock focus repeatedly at a same object and make sure the focus distance doesn't change by checking the lens focus distance window.

Cat pic! Bit of PP involved but you've gotta love the near-macro capabilities of this lens. I've been giving the 85 a run this week since it hadn't been getting much attention lately. The min. 3 ft focusing distance is irksome after using the 24-70 for so long.

Thanks. Yup, used the 580ex for fill. I'm usually fighting with the sun and rarely get nice outdoor shots of my daughter. She's usually not in a picture taking mood during the wee hours and goes to bed just before the good light comes in the evening. On this day, it was nice and cloudy! Overcast enough so that the sun wasn't too harsh.

The best method is in small increments. If you have a 3000px wide image and you want it to be 800px first re-size to 1800px then 800px.
or another way is just to change the image dpi to 72 that will resize it to around 800px
but the first should produce better results. The above system works with sharpening as well, small increments won't damage the pixels as much.

and in addition to that, many savings to jpeg will make it to lose its IQ more, so try to do all pp in one process so to save it once.
I use DPP and it is great in svaing and resizing without any problem.
There is another ways but i better keep them as secret, LOL.

ok, i received my 24-70mm lens and copy of painter X from newegg friday.. so over the weekend i went out to have a little fun.

Seems after having to size them down to keep the tables in order, they just don't look as good. but i guess you get the idea behind the scene :)
btw, could someone give me some pointers as to why the original photo lacks rich color depth as it did in "Real Life".. i can get the specs for the shot, but they are @ home with the original RAW image.
thanks,
Aaron

I agree - it's superb - if it's this good wide open, then it will be interesting to see just how much detail it can eke out - I'll have to try and compare it to my 85mm f/1.8 - I find it hard to imagine many lenses getting more detail than it.

I find that finding good light and exposing correctly is half the battle to achieving vibrant color. My post-processing is minimal, often just using levels and curves for optimal contrast and color. Also, sometimes I adjust individual red/green/blue curves for optimal white balance and color, but this requires some experimentation. If I feel fancy, I'll create a new layer in soft-light mode and do some dodging and burning. Hope this answers your question!

Thanks - since getting Lightroom, I too do minimal post processing - I can't wait for 1.1 to come out, as with the improved sharpening, hopefully I'll only rarely dive into PS. I'll see how I do with the 24-70 - initial test shots show excellent contrast and colour with no PP :D.

Both those shots are lovely. I think I prefer the b&w. They're both stunning, but there's something so timeless about a quality black and white portrait.
I also love that b&w works equally well for really gritty shots, or for smooth, glamorous images like this one.

for those wondering, I have a similar spiderman that you can pick up at your local toy store. very articulated and costs about 8$
the ones posted above look to be the larger 24" version that might be harder to find at your local toy store.
