About to order this lens from B&H to send to a friend in Maryland who I will see in two weeks in Chicago. Prices here in Japan are way more expensive. USA shipping is free and I can pay with yen credit card (yen is strong). Question: I know that both body and lens can affect 'softness' and comments on a 'bad copy' scare me a bit. Would it be unreasonable to ask B&H to put it on a 5D Mark II to make sure it is not a bad copy incapable of being microadjusted? Once here, I may not have a lot of choices although the Canon Service Center is about two hours away. I'll ask them on the phone, but would like your opinionn. Ever ask a store to do this?
Thanks,
John

I can understand why you would say that's your best shot with the 24-70 so far, it's a cute picture, but as a demonstration of what the lens is capable of the image is too soft. Whether that's through a focussing issue or because of camera movement I am not sure.
If that is the only photograph I ever saw as a champion for the lens, I would have to say that it would put me off buying one.

I can understand that... but you are right, the lens is capable of much more than that. I think it was a conjunction of both slow speed (although it was 1/125 if I am not mistaken) and probably misfocus. I'll look for a better one... :)
Thanks for the sincere response!
BTW, here's another shot you might find it extracts "more" of the camera than the previous ones...

what is the difference between MRC and UV Haze if any??

the b+w mrc passes much more light, does not flare as heavily due to it's coatings, and has a negligible impact on image quality.
in actual usage, the difference lies in the fact that the canon uv haze filter flares/washes out whenever it's subjected to strong light sources, and it makes your images visibly less sharp. i cannot accurately distinguish a photo with a b+w mrc and a bare lens, but when you use a cheap filter, it can really make an otherwise sharp lens look muddy.

Tareq I always love the way you process your photos. Is this an HDR? Would you mind sharing your workflow here?:D TIA

Thank you very much!
Yes, this an HDR shot, but the pp i did is to use an action to give this look, i don't want to share my HDR workflow as this is something i got tired to learn myself, but about the action i used it is called "Vintage Film" done by someone on deviantart called "Fallout75"
