Wow! I love all of those.

The two that strike me most are the shadows and mountain mural on the door. I would happily hang both on my wall.

Sad to say that this lens did let me down on this trip; the autofocus went nuts. I had to shoot manually most of the time. Not pleased. Hopefully a calibration is all that's required.

amazing, how you go so much bokeh from this lens at such close range..

I dunno if it was 'such close range' .... exif says 1.22 M, which is somewhere around 4 feet - that from sensor to focus point (some point on her hand)
The Brick does give good separation wide open!

That's like saying, being a cracka addict, will this hit make me never want to smoke again? Doesn't work that way unfortunately. LOL. Quite the contrary, will make you want more expensive lenses. And likely to upgrade the FF.

Nothing special picture wise, but at a 100% crop I feel it illustrates how sharp my copy is wide open:

Hey guys, I'm going on a European family cruise at the end of the summer. I'd like a 2 lens solution for my 5DII and was thinking of picking up a 24-70 and 50mm 1.4 Sigma. Key photography points are The Acropolis, The Amalfi Coast and Positano, Sicily and the various sights around Rome. I know 24mm isn't quite wide enough for the Colosseum but its enough for me. I'd like the 50mm for on board the ship family photos and for low light stuff inside St Peter's and the like.

Anyone use something similar as a travel setup? Based on my destinations I don't think I'll need longer or wider. I've read the Europe "recomendation" threads and this seems like a good fit. I'm also looking into getting a CPL for the landscape shots that are, unfortunately, going to have to be taken in midday sun.

I wouldn't bother with a 50 if I was taking the 24-70. If I'm gonna carry two lenses I'm not gonna duplicate range. I get that they can be used differently but not differently enough for me for travel purposes. I carry 11-16, 24-70 and 70-200 for travel, thus, my advice to you is getting something longer for detail shots, or, more practically based on your destinations, get something a bit wider for the tight spaces you're going to be in.

I might be over-anal'izing it but it is ok to have this lens hanging from the body without any support? I know many people swear by this lens and leave it mounted 24/7. I've also watched the Digital Rev videos where Kai holds the 5D2 + 24-70 in one hand while walking about like its nothing....I just dont want to damage anything.

Eskimochaos, there aren't any problems leaving the lens 24/7 on the body, the inner shell on any modern DSLR can support the strain without flinching :) ( I know my old 50D doesn't mind :D )

is the 24 wide enough on a 1.6x crop factor?

Yup. For me. The difference between the 24-70 on a crop and 35mm at 24mm? A 12" step backwards. That's it. One step. I used the 24-70 for the recent landscapes I've posted here, obviously, and the only time I needed wider was when only an UWA would do, not the 24-70 on 35mm/FF or the EF-S 17-55 but the Tokina 11-16(or something similar).

Edit: Just realized I managed to reply to a post on page 3 of this thread. Meh, I'll leave it. :o

Looks like we have very similar equipment, except my camera body. I'm saving for the Sigma 70-200 OS

That 30mm Sigma you have looks like a lot of fun. I almost got that instead of saving the extra bit for the 24-70.

Hi to you all, I have just bought this lens. Never had it before. I sold the 24-105 to fund this. I must admit I am very impressed about this peace of glass. Great bokeh and really sharp at 2.8..

Here is a test shot from this evening at this aperture: -)

I can really recommend this lens to everybody ---- if you dontīt need the focal 70 - 105 .. there is only one option:- )
