Normally shutter speeds of 400+ will cut it for any type of shake unless you have spasms.

Example:

"Oh crap...i have to get this awesome shot before i miss it. (raises camera) *Spasm* OH SHI!! "

i use this lens with tripod only and ONLY when i do landscape shooting where i use slow shutter speeds or nightshots that i need slower shutter speed or longer exposure as well, but for portraits and studio and walk around in day time i never use tripod unless i find myself reaching 1/30 or longer.

BrantG

Got my brick today. The build is rock solid like everyone describes. I did a couple quick throw away shots when I got home and at 2.8 it is pretty sharp. Even at around 1/50, I was still getting no motion blur/shake. Would I rather have IS like the 17-55? Sure, but every lens has a purpose.

Focus is extremely fast even in poorly lit house. I can't wait till the weekend to do some outside work. Hopefully it isn't raining or snowing.

I guess the big question is do I keep the 17-55 only for the IS? That is the question. For indoor, I would probably use my 580 flash. I have the wide end covered by my Tokina 12-24. Thoughts?

TitusvilleSurfer
18th of February 2008 (Mon), 20:56
There were about 15 kite surfers...most went in just before sunset and/or were to the right of the shot. The sun was the main subject (sunset/sunrise assignment for a photography class due Wednesday). I live within 10 miles of what I have heard described by many as one of the greater kite/wind surfing destinations in the world. I was trying to get a kiter jumping over the sun, and I captured sever over the star...though detail was lacking to the degree of pointlessness.

I generally use mine hand-held with great results. Camera shake is not really an issue for me, although I have to admit, this is the one and only lens that I had to get used to before I got consistently good shots. It is just surprisingly heavy for it's size!!

Its a 4meg file and for some reason I can't resize it to 1024 or 800 long side because the ending file size is too big (larger than 150mb allowed).

That is some awesome clarity, Tareq! I've been thinking about getting an octobox too. Trying to save my pennies for the Photoflex and then get a beauty dish too. So far, I'm up to $1.73 :D

At least it rained today with a cold temp of 60 degree farenheit.

I can never look at ieatstars' pictures with an empty stomach.

Franko515 - How are you compressing your images? I use CS3 and can always compress it to jpeg at highest quality at < 1 mb with shots at 1024pixels on the long side.

Impossible.
I can resize any RAW to 800 or 1024 with high resolution or i mean high quality, try again.

I tried with faststone, LR and windows. That all I have at the moment (laptop screen died, in the process of buying new desktop). At least none of these programs would do the job with the output being a quality file.

I think you still have your DPP, don't tell me you don't have it.
so use LR, save as TIFF if you can, then reopen with DPP and apply sharpness if you need then save as JPEG after resize on DPP and you will see how clarity high IQ you will get, and the size of the file will be less than 1MB i am sure, forget Windows and Fastone.

My order arrived 2 days before but held in customs in Post Office and it was offday yesterday, so i gave my dad the numbers of the tracking orders and he will go today to the post office to bring my orders, they including that octabox and sample printing papers and printer papers, can't wait to test my light again and print more ;)
Good luck to get what you want. :D

same when saying that 400 isn't that much over a 300 but we all want 400, so i prefer 600 over 500 and i never think about the weight.

I always relied heavily on my 70-200 F4IS when doing individual portraits so much so that I had little confidence when I am forced to used the brick when I didn't bring it for a shoot. I guess I didn't have to worry that much, it got the job done. I was sticking to 70mm 90% of the time and never went below f3.5. For me the brick need lotsa light and augment with flash fill in can only give me the IQ I seek.No USM on these.
