I agree, but I often wish I had f/2.8 instead of f/4. That was a typo on my end, meant "stuck" instead of "stuff". :)

No worry's I got it ;)
I get what you saying, f2.8 is really handy, specially in low light and dof control. Wouldn't trade a f2.8 with no IS for an f4 with IS, but that's just me.

When nothing else works, sometimes you just have to work on the mask layer the old fashioned way with a brush! Cloning hair if required. :)

Yep, but this is a quick one with blending mode on the background layer and then a mask. No refine edge used this time. :)

posted this in 2 other threads already, so feel kinda bad posting it here, but this was my first time shooting with the 24-70, funny thing is my favorite lens for the longest time was a 50mm f 1.4, so my eye automatically gravitated to the 50mm lol, this was shot at 51mm, without looking at the lens :S haha.

was testing out some lighting setups for my shoot on thursday, so the gf and I were having some fun.
b800 w/ blue gel behind model.
e640 in octabox, camera right,
b800 in 7" reflector (lost my grids) above, behind model, left. giving hair and rim.

found out my sensor was extremely dirty :( (cloned out about 10 spots)

If you could crop out the phone wires, increase saturations/boost colors, add some contrast/gradient layers and some sharpening would look awesome hanging on a wall!

^^^ What he said. Prepare yourself for about 3 times the weight and twice the size. Still wouldn't give mine up for anything though. Probably the most versatile lens Canon makes for FF. Make sure you're buying from a reputable place where you can evaluate the lens beforehand or return easily online. I've heard of less than stellar copies out there.

Just curious, what are you trading/selling it for instead? What made you choose a different lens other than the 24-70.

Im trying to get 35L. I prefer using primes over zooms since i like to use wide apertures. For me with primes you can get more creative and it stands out from the others. At first I was happy with 2.8 but now its not enough for my style :) Dont get me wrong this lens is awesome and super sharp.

Hello friends,

I've just bought the lens, I can't believe how sharp it is at the telephoto end, it's near as sharp as my 100L even at f2.8

But at the wide end of the zoom it is another story.
Can you please check the photo below?

It is at 24mm f4.0 ISO200 taken by a 40D.

Can any one please tell me if this is the sharpness I should expect at 24mm on a crop camera (specially at corners)?

I cannot say this photo is specially sharp, compared to photos I took at 50mm and above at f4 as well.

I think the camera focused at the plane of the tablecloth (and behind) which looks sharp to me.

I'd agree that the focus was toward the rear, maybe the wall (the wall decorations look pretty good).

The only way to really evaluate a lens is to do some test shots using a tripod (or other sturdy support) and good techniques to ensure good focus and sharpness!

My first time out using this lens for what I bought it for. I was a bit nervous about how the quality would be but it certainly outperformed my 17-50 Tamron.

It isn't creepy. I'm trying to work as a fashion photographer, and I needed a mannequin.

The mannequin came from Displays2Go. When I bought it, it was on sale. Now it is at a slightly higher price, but it's still good at $111. They shipped quickly and it arrived fine.

The wig came from Best Wig Outlet. The price was $50. You can pay much more than that, as well as much less. The quality of the wig is good. They also shipped quickly and it arrived fine. You need a "toothy" brush with the wig.

The dress (size 4) came from Chadwicks of Boston. They're a good clothier. While I don't like all of their things, some of their clothes are very nice. I paid $50, but I see it is on sale for $30. I chose black as that is tough to photograph for fashion. I'll be doing fully lit full length photos in the coming days, which will present serious lighting challenges.

you guys see the 24-70 mk II on fstoppers today? I don't think I'll be "upgrading"..it's just new coatings and a bigger front element, no IS and it still extends with zooming..for $2300
