Right, i like it and i am so satisfied with it.
but why most people here or somewhere choose 24-105mm? is it because of focal length or something else?

HectorsGTI
25th of May 2006 (Thu), 09:48
I chose the 24-70 f/2.8 over the 24-105 soley based on bokeh. I like the bokeh WAY better on the 24-70 as well as the overall light range. I noticed the backgrounds were a touch lighter on the 24-70 and a bit darker on the 24-105. I got to try them both out at the store I shop at which is a great way for you to choose which one you prefer. The extra focal length and image stabilization would have been nice but that's why I've got legs and steady hand.

A number of things really, many people don't want or need the extra aperture and they feel the IS more than makes up for it (i agree with that depending on how it's used of course) also the extra focal length and similar IQ make the 24-104 the better option.
I can't speak for everyone but that's how i see it, i was going to get one until my 24-70 fell into my lap at a price i couldn't refuse.

Yes just a little. The tunnel was lit by flourescent light, that's what give the green glow. Everything else is natural. sharpened and color saturation was raised.

I received my 24-70 2.8L today. These are two of the first pictures taken off the "big brown truck". I'm not real sure why I decided on taking a picture of the side of my brothers car, but I did. I guess this was my version of the "battery test". I'm looking forward in playing with the lens this weekend.

Right, i like it and i am so satisfied with it.
but why most people here or somewhere choose 24-105mm? is it because of focal length or something else?

Because some people think the extra reach is more useful for the "walk around" lens, and that the IS will cover the low light situations.

Although if you have the 70-200 2.8, then the 24-70 is the better pairing. :)

Yes, that is correct. White absorbs heat much less than black. And these lens are made for outdoors stuff, and sun exposure is often common in this big lens.

It is for me. That's a personal decision. Depends on what you need, how much room, what your subject is, if you'll get distortion, etc. Very subjective.

sugarzebra

is the 24 wide enough on a 1.6x crop factor?

Generally speaking, no its not wide enough, and thats why my next lens will be the 10-22. But I agree with Ronald in that its somewhat subjective and your need for a wider lens is also based on the type of photography you do.

i agree. the 24-70 has superior bokeh. the bokeh of the 24-105 can be spikey and harsh if you aren't careful. this one taken with my 24-105 is all right tho. btw, your shot is fantastic!

Thats why i went for 24-70, i know that 24-105 is an amazing lens, but i think i got good stuff by adding 70-200 to my 24-70, so then 24-105 is not necesary. and speed is a big benefit over the IS on 24-105 to me.

It is a photo in my recent holidays in a hotel bedroom.
I exposed the photo because it is a fast photo whithout any preparation, and only to show the possibility of the canon 24.70L /2.8, used by a bad amateur photograth.(ISO400 1/320 24mm F.9) (canon 350D)
Like one friend of mine said: if you donīt have the knowledge use the best instrument your money can afford " talking about bass flyfishing.
I love my 24-70...

Firstly welcome to the forum Eduardo. Secondly, I think this is an interesting shot, it is well exposed, leading your eye from the covers out of the window and back to the headboard lights. It's thought provoking and so works very well in my opinion. Well done.

Can't help with the fast sports but can with some fast performance action - here are a few taken on Friday night with a 24-70L and 1DM2N - 1600 ISO. It's a great lens!

I would think it's pretty unusual to shoot sports with this focal length, but I might be wrong. If you're worried about the AF speed of the 24-70/2.8, don't be. It's ultra fast.

Although I love my 24-70 if I was shooting sports I would be looking at the 70-200 f2.8 it's an awesome lens too.

Cheers for those pics they are great blackshadow, how did you get away with shooting on iso1600 and no visible grain?

keep the pics coming people :)

as for the lens im using the Canon 28-135mm IS USM at the moment but it's dieing lol

i use the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM also but need a replacement for the smaller zoom lens and thought this lens would be ideal.

Here is a shot I did at Christmas for friends at their new house. I shot kind of far back so you could see the decorations. I could not get the shot with my 85mm so I pulled out the 24-70. Boy was I pleased. I have included a crop so you could really see how good a job the lens did.

Here are some more. The first was taken in a blowing nor'easter on an Atlantic beach. Hard to really see in the picture, but this shot was only possible with a weathersealed combination:

http://litpixel.com/ee/images/thumb/_1D_0439.jpg (http://litpixel.com/ee/photo.php?photo=387)

Shot through a monorail window at speed, using a CPL, at Epcot. I used nothing but the 24-70mm the whole day between the MK and Epcot... It even takes pictures in very dark rides. Who needs IS? The last picture was handheld at 1/8s.
