Canon will continue to produce the cameras it currently makes but no longer work on developing new ones. Not really a shocker to anyone I'm sure.

Not a shock at all. If anything its more of a shock that this didnt happen sooner. I haven't seen a film camera in awhile on store shelves and when I have it was the Elan 7abcdefg. Eos 1 and Eos 3 I have not seen in a long time.

Makes good business sense. Even the die hard film photographers are realizing that digital has now passed film and are making the switch.

the end of an era.. truly it doesn't affect me. I've never shot film.. and in all honesty the film photographers I know don't switch out to the newest model every other year so not sure if it will really bother them all that much... the best film photographer I know has a twenty year old pentax.... I do wonder about the large format and medium format crowd... losing 35mm cameras is one thing.. but the medium/large format cameras I might have a bit of a reaction to... mostly because I think there process of creating a photo is really incredible..

I took out my film camera the other day...looking for something in the camera bag...It had 11 pictures left on it and I really think the pictures on the film are from when I gave birth to my first child...who just celebrated her 3rd birthday!!!

At first I thought you were talking about video cameras, I havent heard the word film in a long time. Ya thats a good business decision, it's be stupid to continue making/ developing new ones.
