battery pack charge

I'm shooting with the D30 and the battery indicator shows low. Since I'm using two batteries in the grip, I guess that means I have a whole one left? or is that wrong?

I don't know for a fact, but I don't think it would make sense for the camera to work this way:

a) how would you know that it was the first or second battery that was low?

b) it would mean building circuitry/subsystems to cater for this "dual monitoring" that would only be relevant for a few users.

So the low battery indication would mean that the charge is as equally low as if I was using one battery.
