Hi all,
next month I plan on taking my D30 on a trip to the U.S. (from Germany). I wonder how the D30 and the memory cards will be affected by airport xray machines etc.
Is the camera's firmware at risk of getting wiped out? How about the flash memory and the micro drive?
Anybody here who had the whole camera bag xray'd? Problems? Things to avoid?
Any feedback appreciated...

Harald,
You should have no problems with x-ray machines.
I have traveled extensively through the US with my notebook computer and a digital camera into my carry-on luggage and never had any problems, except for the inconvenience of sometimes having to turn my computer on for the inspector.
Regular film is more succeptible to x-rays.
Enjoy your trip, take lots of pictures and have fun.
Persio.

Harald,
To share another experience to this discussion, I have to concur with what Persio has said. I have also travelled with the D30 and a couple of other digital cameras as well as a digital wallet. All have gone through airport x-ray security with no problems whatsoever. Neither the images on the cards nor on the digital wallet drive were affected in any way. The cameras worked fine afterwards as well. The only thing, as Persio also pointed out, when you are taking these items as carry-on, you must have the batteries installed a be able to turn them on to prove they work.
Have a good trip!

During the holidays I flew from San Francisco to London Heathrow and back, and everything was fine with my MicroDrive and D30.

I have traveled a lot in December, namely Germany - Singapore - New Zealand and back. Had the D30 in my hand luggage (of course), and had it put through the scanner. The scanners do not affect notebooks, so CF and harddisks should be entirely safe, and this is exactly what I experienced. No problems whatsoever, also no probs with my Digital Album.
Have a nice and safe trip!
