I used to own a canon rebel xt, but it was stolen. In my experience, the speed of the memory matter little because of the builtin buffer.

Does this hold true with the s2? Or, will I experience shutterlag and other loss of features as a result of purchasing a straight SD card.

thanks for your assistance.

After reading posts about this in other forums, I don't think it matters. I bought an Ultra II to be on the safe side and it has worked fine for me.

mmm.... i also wondered that a cuople month ago.... I ended up getting a 150x, just to be safe....

I think if you really want to have the 100% of your camera (and by this, i mean all the main features of the cam), you should get a fast SD card... In video mode, it takes an average of 2.5 mb/s of writting... At those rates, buffer will fill up pretty quick. That won't happen with the 16mb card that comes with the camera, because in less than 7 seconds, the SD will fill up.... But, the cheapest SD cards can only write at an average of 1.5 mb/s... It could be ok for an 16 mb card, but for a 512 / 1024 mb it's not....

I don't know, i think it depends on how are you going to use your camera....

Yes it matters if your camera can take advantage of the higher speed cards (which the S2 IS can ;) ) Faster cards help with write times (i.e. continous shot mode, and writing data to your computer from the card) read times may also matter to you for picture viewing, if you have lots of shots on your camera viewing with a high speed card is a tad bit faster.
