If you have used both, how do they compare? Is the N worth the ~$1K extra that is asked?
Are there any drawbacks with either?

In a word No. If of course you are buying new the N is the camera you want but if you are buying second hand and looking for a saving the 1DMkII is right up there at the top..:)
My brother has the N.
I have the 1DMkII.
There are some little advantages with the N but not ~$1K difference IMO.;)

$1k is a big difference. That being the case, I'd rather get the Mark II and a lens.

If you already have the 1DMII, then no upgrade is required, but if you are looking to buy a new camera...........check our www.pricegrabber.com, its not a $1,000.00 difference in price

I have the MK2 and don't think its worth the upgrade price to me,but if I was just going to buy one I would have the N.:D:D

I had two 1DMk2s and upgraded to the Ns. Depends on whether the added features are worth anything to you. To me they are useful. In particular, the quick zoom in preview that zooms in around the used focus point is a big help for both portraits and action shooting. There are also rumors that the N tracks better in Servo, and it seems to me like that's the case... but I have no way to prove it. The N also lets you change the filenaming that it assigns. I use multiple photographers/cameras on some shoots and this is helpful for me. Finally, the much larger LCD is a big help. I got a great deal on the Ns and upgraded... I guess it all depends on how you shoot and whether the savings in productivity (time equals money) are of use to you.

I love the 2.5" LCD's Canon has added to the "N" as well as the 5D and 30D. Not worth an upgrade in itself, but a big improvement in my book

Not really, for a $1k difference in price. The 1D-MII is a very, very good camera.
Basically the same camera. The "N" has a larger LCD, but it's not as bright. I can't tell if there is any difference in the AI servo tracking. File naming, JPEG to one card and RAW to the other? I don't care about those extras.
Actually, I am waiting to see if they come out with a 1Ds- MIII.
If you want the "N" or will feel more comfortable with the newer model then, by all means, get it. Won't go wrong.

You'll be happy with either one. Hell, even the original 1D for that matter.
