Hello, I have just bought an A620, and hope to run off some test shots soon. I notice the default ISO setting is 50. I was wondering do most users work with ISO 50, or are there any noise problems using the higher settings from 100 to 400. I would greatly appreciate comments/observations from A620 users.

I use an S2IS. But I keep the ISO at the lowest I can to avoid noise.

Noise is not a problem with either ISO 50 or 100. With larger prints, it is slightly noticable at ISO 200 and even more so at ISO 400. Noise is seldom an issue with smaller prints or images intended for viewing on the web. Of course, since you are the only possible judge of what you personally like and dislike, you should ulitmately test this yourself with a series of printed test images.

Yes, the higher the iso, the more noise you'll have on the pěc...

But, you could use the neat image software, it'll do a pretty good job washing the noise.

Nevertheless, as said before, keep the iso as low as you can....

Thanks Stefan A, Stewart and Sandman 82. I appreciate the noise will tend to be greater as the ISO setting goes up, and I suppose what I was really wondering was if ISO 100 prouced acceptable results. Many thanks for taking time to reply. I have taken some test shots at 50 and 100, and on-screen they look fine. I have yet to print some as a final check. Overall I find this camera amazingly well featured, with a nice lens, and makes a good alternative on certain occasions to my 350D.

Yes, ISO 100 will produce very acceptable results, even with larger prints. For medium-sized prints (8x10 US inches), I don't even mind the noise at ISO 200. Of course, this is a personal judgement which others, including you, might not agree with. However, I tend to limit the ISO 400 images to smaller prints (but, again, you may not agree with that).

And, yes, this is an amazing camera. It is the first compact camera I've felt comfortable enough with (the image quality and so on) to use instead of my larger cameras in a surprising number of situations.
