BLASPHEMER!!!! You shall hereby be stoned...to death.
I go to FM sometimes, but just to sell. I think the actual forum is pretty stinky in comparison. This is a lovely place. I also like that it's focused on Canon, since that's what I use. Makes it easier to find out what you want to know! Don't have to search through Nikon, Oly, Contax, Hassy, etc. Much easier.

There's no place like POTN, however I think that you will find that when it comes to buying & selling a lot of people use Fred Miranda (FM) as well (strictly because of the volume). I would think of that as not a lot different than using eBay so its probably OK ;)

I started out at other forums but spend my limited time here. People are knowledgeable, quick to answer and generally have a sense of humor about noob questions. I check out FM every so often, too, but feel more at "home" here.

Fred Miranda's forum isn't too bad, although I feel that POTN members as a whole are kinder to newbies. There's also a forum associated with Smugmug, called Dgrin. And then there's the Flickr experience, which is getting to be as big as all outdoors.
All in all, I've participated in a number of different forums, but this one is the one that keeps me coming back for more.

photo.net is a decent site. Good reviews and some very knowlegable folks there. Held back by old and very limited forum software though.

This is my photographic home! Having said that, I do enjoy looking at the work on Naturescapes and the tutorials on Luminous Landscape.

talkphotography.co.uk is the only other photography forum I visit regularily. Its run on vbulletin (Used on 3 out of 4 of the main forums I visit), and it has a good atmosphere. Its based in the UK, so everyone knows the areas mentioned better.
Apart from that, POTN is my home. I think I've made more posts/day here than anywhere else (I have over 1000 posts on 3 different forums, one of which I've been a member since 2003)

I wonder how many are regulars, who visit often.....
If we go from the assumption that those who visit often also post often, a look at the members list (sorted by number of posts) can help here:
- about 600 users with more than 500 posts
- about 2300 users with more than 100 posts
- about 8700 users with more than 10 posts
so I guess there's a lot of pretty active people here:wink:
Best regards,
Andy

so over 50,000 of those members haven't made 10 posts!
ooh...I'm one of only 600 :)
edit: According to my crude counting, I'm the 195th top poster :D
(thats vs me being the 711th highest poster on digitalspy.co.uk, where I have 1,850 posts and there's 151,000 members, and me being in the top 10 of a forum with 2000 members)
well...not too bad :D

As far as other photography forums are mentioned, I quite recently took a look at www.photocamel.com which seems to be a nice community but quite small. In the Canon forum, if you scroll down the page to thread #25, it's about 3 weeks old.
Best regards,

Aside from this one (the one I go to the most), I also visit:
DP Review's Forums (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/)
Forum for Canon PowerShot Pro 1 users (http://www.powershotpro1.com/newforum/)
CyberDyneSystems

I check out a few others,
Primarily Fred Miranda to see what's going on,.. post reviews, check Buy and sell (well I used to before I started house hunting) and of course to marvel at how much better this place is and boost my ego.
I rarely post at Naturescapes.net,. but I do like to go there and look at the bird photos,. and to have my ego utterly decimated!

I check out a few others
So wait, you are responsible for 94.7% of the posts here and you still have time to post on others? :)
I used to be a frequent poster at photo.net but droped to troll over there after I found this place. Here and ArsTechnica are the only places I post now.

Photocamel has one of the best glamour/nude sections (http://www.photocamel.com/index.php/topic,8012.0.html) going, along with this forum. Lorek is a moderator over there.

As is another of our members J A F Doorhof.
I prefer the maturity level of our own forums a bit more. Over on photocamel there tends to be a much higher percentage of "Hey, nice rack, oh yeah and pretty good photo too" type comments. :)

For portrait photographers www.ILovePhotography.com is quite helpful. I have learned a lot over there as well as here. POTN is much bigger than many of the others.

My browser won't allow me to go to FM, it's been coming here for too long.
I think it's partially because the site used to be blocked here at work, although before it was I signed up, and now that it's not I have no way of either remembering my p/w or resetting it.

I drop into DPR occasionally, though it is a bit like witnessing a car crash sometimes - you don't want to watch but you just can't help it :). Fred Miranda I find is often slow and I don't like how the forum software is organized (I know not important in the long run, but annoying none the less).
I would recommend http://www.photocamel.com/ if you enjoy friendly discussions as well as have an interest in glamour/erotic photography (as I have). There are some great pros posting there, and if you ask nicely you can get into the 'private club' (hope I haven't spilled the beans :)) which has some excellent, but quite strong, erotica as well as more raucous discussions.

Ive joined probably 10 photography forums over the years, but I mainly just visit 3 of them.
I had actually forgotten about this forum till recently. I was doing a search for something on google and came accross an article on this forum. I had this forum bookmarked on my notebook, but it stoped working back in January. And then I didnt get an email update from this forum in a while so I didnt get to readd it to my bookmarks on the desktop.
I go to each forum for thier own reasons. Some have good business advice, some have good technical advice, others just have great photographs that are inspiring to see. :0)
Im surprised not to see some of the other forums mentioned here.
