Hi all, should I return my 20D for the 30D? The 20D came with 18-55 kit lens, 70-300 is usm, pixma 6220d printer. I got this for around $2200, if I return it I'll get all my money back. Reason i've been thinking about it is because Canon sent me back $60 of the $430 they're supposed to send me for the rebate back in january. I don't need/use the printer and 70-300 is usm anyways. I was thinking of buying the 30D and L glass for about the same price.
TIA

Do it! You obviously have some reservations so as the Nike ad says......Just Do it!

You could get a brand new 30D, a grip, and a 17-40L for that price. Even a CF with the remainder.
Yes, I'd say return it.

Yes.
Always trade up when the urge strikes. It reduces the number of "should I trade up" messages in forums . . . .

I would. I was torn between a lens and getting the 30D. I finally figured out that I can ALWAYS justify buying a lens. But I can't ALWAYS justify buying a new body, so I bought the body and am sooo happy with it!!

You guys don't sound very positive on what I should do  . Guess I'll be a 30D owner in about a week :D Now the big question is what glass to get. I've got a 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 is usm for a walk around lens. Any suggestions on L glass? I'm still a newb and want something i can grow with. I do mostly portraits for now. I figure I'll have about $1000 for a new lens, preferably tele.

I will go with either 24-105mm 4L IS or 24-70mm 2.8L. These 2 lenses are great on the 1.6x crop body, especially if you do mostly portraits. Both lenses are about $1200, sightly over your budget. 24-105mm is lighter compares to 24-70mm. I have both and they both are very sharp with either 1.3x crop or 1.6x crop body (soft edge on FF body below 28mm). If the weight will bother you and you think IS is important, then 24-105mm is highly recommended.

You need something wider, I'd suggest the 17-40L as a fantastic lens, it's what I replaced the kit lens with - and you need something longer. I'd suggest the 70-200 f/4 - this makes a superb portrait lens too, so long as you have a little room. The clarity, sharpness, colurs and bokeh are superb and it is the best value L lens going. If you decide later you need the 2.8 version, you can sell it on with very little financial loss.
I'd also suggest something in the 35mm range - possibly the Canon 35mm f/2 ( the L version if you're loaded) or the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (good for low light)

for $1000 you could prob pick up the 17-40 to cover your wide end the 70-200 f4 for longer (its also pretty good for portraits).
