Hey everyone! I'm off shooting a two day festival near my home this weekend. It's a radio station sponsored event. The only thing I have done to these is resize them. Photo pit was crowded as the day progressed. We also had to stay on our side of the stage as there was equipment blocking the middle. Today's lineup I actually like better than yesterday. Now if I only had this lighting every time I shot a band!

The misfits were shot at 400 while the others were 800.. I'm outta here. Bands start in about 30 minutes.

Doesn't look like you got whole bands. :-) Would be nice to know name of festival and name of radio station. We have an annual three day event, Live Oak Music Festival, three days each Father's Day weekend. Always some big names mixed in. It is a benefit for public radio stations KCBX.

Now Dwight you should know by now from looking at what I post, I don't do wide shots of bands (and this is not something that is technically wrong, this is personal preference, I like tight shots!) .. Too much extra crap on the stage. Now if it was a cool stage set up like Iron Maiden, then that would be another thing. I'm not so into the giving all the info because for the most part unless you are from around where I am, you wouldn't know where it was. This is HFStival. It's an annual radio festival. Used to be something that was known as one of the best festivals around for the top bands to play but the station flipped formats a couple of years ago now and the fans fought to get their station back. It did come back but is now in baltimore and not washington DC ( a hour between the two). So many of the alternative radio stations have flipped formats.
Now Dwight, no comments though on the photos? Only comments that I didn't get entire bands and didn't give you more info? ;) I'm dumping the photos from Day 2 now. I shot way too much.. That's the thing with digital, we tend to shoot more since we can delete!

Ears, not getting the entire band is a comment on the photos. It was meant in the sense that the first "band" is two pictures of the same guy, as is the last. I like the first two. But I usually expect to see all of a band even if not done with a single shot or unless they are just sidemen. Not all comments about images are about color, angle or composition.
The reason for mentioning the venue or event is the same as for mentioning the bands/artists by name ... who I never heard of by the way ... because these forums are searchable from the big search engines and it is only fair to the artists and venues the same as you wanting a photocredit.

Regarding what I posted, sorry was a long day and was just starting to go through what I shot. But the statement about whole band was a big vague and you and others do shoot wide entire band shots so understand where I'm coming from. Understand that I shot over 500 shots the first day and over 1000 the second day. That's a lot of photos to go through. I just finished dumping the photos from the second day and am dividing them up now. Have to go through them band by band, choose which I want to post and then edit them. The ones I posted yesterday am weren't edited at all. Those were directly from the memory card except for resizing.
As far as the last two being the same guy, it's Kayne West. It's a guy.. He had someone on turntables and a string quartet but it's Kayne West. As far as knowing who someone is, he's the only one mentionable while he was on stage. Because of the search engines, there is one band that I cannot post photos of because of the release that I had to sign. Though technically the release isn't valid, I do want to shoot them again and get an interview so I'm not going to push it!

Ears, I would only have you remember that I never intend any observation as a put down. I am used to you having much "wider" coverage so it was a question ... maybe you had had technical difficulties ... whatever. I like your work, wish it was bigger, understand why not, etc., etc.
Never heard of Kayne West! :-) But, I have images of Sugarland before anyone knew who they were. And several others. You never know when having a name for the search engines may help someone. As for the release ... always honor the intent even if it is not technically binding. :-)
I can get 800 frames in first three songs!

I'm working on getting other photos to post. Just divided them up into artist folders and am starting to go through them. We had two songs these two days. Though for some of these artists who really didn't move, two songs was enough. The photo area was so crowded as the day progressed. There were people in there that weren't shooting so we addressed that and security made sure those individuals didn't come back in.
Oh I totally agree with you about the release. We did remind them that we needed a copy of it. I don't burn bridges but I would like a copy of it for my records. I signed one that was only valid in the UK last year. We knew it wasn't valid here but band management wanted it signed or we couldn't shoot, so I signed it!
