Hi there,

have found Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 really cheap the in a mates shop. Was just wondering what its predominantly used for and if its a usefull thing to have? Will the MT-24EX macro flash?

It's used for two things. Firstly, it gives a red AF assist beam. Secondly, it's a master to slave Speedlites.

As a master, it's more limited than a 550EX or 580EX; it can only control A and B groups, not a C group. However, it's far from worthless. You could certainly use it with your 580EX to place the 580EX off camera.

I think your last question is will it control the macro flash. From canon's description YES. I do not have a macro flash unit yet as I am still waiting on your report ;) How is that flash working out?
