I am being told that the Lexar Professional series compact Flash memory cards if used with the 10D would write faster than the 'regular' card.
However when I read the details at the Lexar site, it says that the WA (Write Accelerated) technology only currently works with Nikon, Fuji, Kodak and a few others but is not currently supported by Canon.
If this is the case then why would I want to pay the extra $40 or so for the 512MB card at 40x ($179) when I could by the 'regular' one for $144ish at 16X?
I would appreciate to hear back from the forum.

You will see is if you fill up your cameras buffer (like sports shooting). The camera will write at the same speed to the buffer no matter what speed the card is rated. The cards speed will only be noticed in quicker dumping of the cameras buffer.

So Doug...are you saying that buying the Pro series card is worth the extra $$ ?

The main benefit is the faster transfer speed, 32X, which is 6 times the standard speed (4X).
It would be useful if you are taking hundres of pics at a time, because you are bored when pics are being downloaded.
I paid 400 euros for 1GB. What are you complaining about?

I shoot portraits, so to me it's not worth the extra money. If you shoot sports & fire off shots in continous mode, it will be worth it. Personally, I use 1gig Microdrives and they are great (but having the 1gig CF card being solid state would be my preferrence now).

Go for SanDisk. They have the Ultra (40x), and the Ultra II (60x), and now the Extreme (60x plus rescue software).
I don't have anything against Lexar but, as you noted, Canon doesn't support the WA technology. Why pay for something you can't use?
Have Fun.

If you read DPreviews specs on the 10D,. and or any of the numerous 1st hand tests on this forum, the faster cards DO NOT give anything near the claimed speeds in the 10D.
A 32X lexar in a test I did myself wrote a 9 frame full buffer of RAW images to the card approximately 10% faster than the "normal" sandisk I have.
A 10 percent increase where as the claim of 32X "should" result in an 800% speed increase in writing to the buffer.
However you will see a significant increase in transfer to your PC IF you use a USB2 or Firewire card reader.
For this reason I would go with a Lexar 12X at best,. the Lexar media is well respected.
Sandisk media on the other hand,. although I have no problems with mine,. searching this forum for CF Card errors and lost files,. I swear 90% of the problems reported here took place on Sandisk media. :(
P.S. here is another test I did with my own cards
