Hi,

When I download the pictures from the CF I get the THM's and CRW's.
Normally I delete the THM's because I don't need them (ACDsee 5.0 display's the raw's).

Than I use C1 to develop and work.

Is there any use in keeping the THM's or can I savely remove them ?

Greetings,
Frank

I was reading on this very subject the other day. Up until now, I had been deleting the *.thm files when I was backing up to CD's.

What I found out was that a good portion of the exif data is stored in the thm and the author that I was reading suggested never deleting this file.

I'm not sure about C1LE as I use breezebrower for my conversions and it comes with a program called twidle that will rebuild your thm off of the crw file but apparently can't rebuild all of the information.

Chris Breeze's reasons for keeping THMs:

Hummmm,

That's bad.
When I keep the THM's renaming is a total dissaster.
When I lose them I will loose some Exif data.

I checked my developed JPEG's and found all the data I needed, F number, exposure, settings, and date.

Faster rebuilding is no problem here, my machine is rather fast, writing to RAW is also not used.

The Exif info however bugs me.
When I use C1 will it look at the HTM's ?
I don't believe it does, there are 2 different files on my PC.

Intressting subject, I thought the THM's were there for the viewing on the display of the camera.

Greetings,
Frank

Hi all,

On the flipside, how do I safely remove all the EXIF information when I burn files for other people?

I typically use a PCMCIA adapter to download files from CF (through downloaded Pro) to the newest version of Breeze Browser, convert Raw to 16bit *.TIFF then process through photoshop 7.0.

I have been noticing (at least with XP) that whenever I hold my mouse pointer over a saved graphic file I get information including which camera I am using. I'd like to send some files to my girlfriend without her knowing I've spent so much money on my 10D :)

Thanks!

Thanks Clos,

Is "save for web" lossy?
