Long time no talk...yeah yeah, as some of you already know I have a little niece now and the little cutie has been taking most of my time as well as getting geared up to go for my IT degree next spring semester of 2007 in January. So, I've been reading up on a lot of computer hardware and networking books...fun fun, eh? :)
So, anyways I was messing around with my camera and I finally sat down and finally learned how to use "MY COLORS" mode. Wow! this is really cool I thought, never really bothered with it before and didn't feel like trying to learn it as I was too busy trying to get better with all the other aspects that photography brings.
So, gotta say, it can sure make a average and normal objects look cool. Here are two that turned out pretty cool. Again, DEFINATELY not my best work, but HEY, take it easy on me I was having some fun!

**PS - If you guys wanna see my niece Chelsey, just go the gallery in my sig and click on her named link "Chelsey" and I have about 10 or so pictures of her. She was born on April 4, 2006.***

I love playing around with "my colors". It was actually one of the first things I played with. Glad that you had so much fun with it!

Yeah, I didn't understand it at all at first, hell everything was greek to me, and now its almost like, I laugh because instead of having to take about 20 or 30 shots to get a good one like I used to I can get a nice clear, well exposed image in just 5 or less now most of the times.

I used My Colors in one of my POTN entries. I love experimenting with it too. I did find that sometimes the colors "bleed". The pic below, I had to adjust saturation in PP so the yellow was the only color that stood out. The original pic showed some green on the grass sorrounding the dandelions. Here's the pic:

can one do this with S1?

30th of May 2006 (Tue), 05:19
No, only the S2, A620/A610s and up have the my colors model to my knowledge, some of the SD Elph models may have them as well, but I'm not 100% positive on this as I don't know much of anything about those models mainly due to the fact that they don't have a lot of manual modes so I never bothered with them. You can do the same effect in photoshop though I believe. I just don't know how to.

This is great fun - the modes that accentuate colours can be good too - I used to use the blue mode quite a bit for skies...
Anyway, a couple shot in Colour Accents Mode...

Definitely this characteristic is one of my favorites of my S2, I can play a lot with it.

Nice guys. I'm lovin' this thread, I'm glad I started it! Hey John...post that picture you entered in the "Backroads and Alleys" contest" I THINK you used my colors or something you said for one of the versions, can't remember just know it was a really cool picture.
Might I add those are some beautiful flowers. By the way I hope you didn't mind me doing this if so I'll delete but my girlfriend's birthday is coming up and I think she'd really like those instead of the ole cliche roses I tend to get at times so what are those two flowers, especially that bottom one I've pointed to as I've been seeing a lot of those here recently that people have taken pictures of but I don't know what they are, I assume their common, I just don't know what they are.
Hey one more thing you mentioned that you said you used the "blue mode" I haven't tried that yet, does it tend to act like a polarizer I'm assuming? If so, I really need to use that because I've been having trouble with skies at times. If so, I wonder if it'd work like a ND filter for water, if so that'd be wicked, I doubt it though, but I think I'm gonna have to try it out sometime this upcoming weekend.

its actually rather simple... its one of the first things i learned in PS. what you do is duplicate the original picture, then on the duplicate you drop the saturatation to -100% (or whatever you wish, if you want a bit of color in the whole pic but you want something to stand out more). once you've done that, you take the eraser tool and erase the parts that you want to have color.

Oh ok, that doesn't seem too bad then, I'll have to try that out when I get some free time and post the results.
=======================================
ALRIGHT GUYS WHAT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR...DON'T HAVE A POLARIZER...DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, "MY COLORS" IS YOUR FRIEND!

Chad, thanks so much for posting that picture!!! I never knew blue mode did that! I guess I'll have to play around more with the different color settings. :)

:D Nutters...
You can do some great stuff with the blue my colours mode, but it's still not going to reduce glare etc - a polariser is a very worthwhile purchase, imo.

There's a couple of other ways to do it too - desaturate and then use the history brush to paint in the colour, or do as above and use a layer mask to paint the colour back in.
For fairly defined colours, the colour accents mode can save you a lot of work though :)

colour accents? Is that a filter, or part of the my colours thing?
I wish there was a filter to do that :)

When I first purchased my S2 I used the My colors feature a few times and not much since. I really like the feature but I forget it's there. Here was one of my first attempts at my colors. The flower was red with a yellowish-green middle.

Oh boy does it save you some work LOL, I would rather use 'my colors' than have to do it in PS. But knowing how to do it in PS is helpful for those who dont have 'my colors' on their camera.:)

my original post said "Goat", and then I edited it to be goat/camel, and then I edited it again to say just camel - I guess I should of just left it :)
