Post pictures of your cat!
Well it doesn't have to be your cat but hey, it's a plus if it is.

Here's mine, his name's Smokey Joe
shot on a 20d with a 50 f/1.8 II

thank you, she is quite the character. I believe this one was taken with the 85L and some flash.

yes cats can have pretty funny personalities
makes life a heck of a lot less boring to have a cat around
thats one heck of a lens
so speedlite works well if the cat's eyes are open too?

the flash will work for a few shots, then my cat gets pissed and runs away from the camera :)

no i mean do you get green/yellow eye, or is this only with the onboard flash since it's not that far away from the camera?

Also, is it all auto? With the pop-up, in Program auto, I always get a speed of 1/60 no matter the aperture or lighting, no matter how low.

In Av/Tv priority I always get the same aperture or shutter speed as if I wasn't using the flash at all.

???

I bounce the flash or use a bounce with the catchlight out with the 580EX. If you do this, no funky eye colors. If you use the pop up flash from the camera, all sorts of weird eye colors will happen. And as far as flash settings go, I shoot in Manual. Usually 1/60th a second on up to 1/125th depending on the movement of my subject and adjust apeture according to your needs. After that, adjust ISO to get the right exposure. Its all about test and re-shoot till you get it right

This is my first post here and I'm fairly new to all of this, so go easy on me. ;)

Probably not the best photo of her (and the shoes in the background really bother me  ), I just like the expression on her face. Taken with the S2IS.

My big furballs won't sit still for the camera, however there are many shops in our little town that have "watch cats"- they have gotten used to me stopping by early in the am to shoot reflections in their windows and come to meet me. Each of the following has a "mate" I can't quite capture- they are usually trying to paw through the glass to get some lovin'.
Gonna have to visit during business hours so I don't have to shoot through glass (and so the other two get the attention they ask me for.)!
here are a couple both taken on my "Nothing but macro" walk- tried to get as much of them as I could without changing the 70-300 from its macro setting.

To all you black cat owners...

What exposure settings do you find yourself dialing in?
Aperture, Shutterspeed, ISO, Exposure Comp. (most important to me)?
and what do you meter off of? The entire scene with matrix metering, or partial or spot metering?

thanks

I think I must have re-sized those after I'd sharpened them I'll replace once I remember my web space password. Shot with Canon 100mm Macro. Anyone with tips for black cats I'd love them too. If I ever manage to focus on my black one I miss the lighting and just end up with a black mass with orange eyes.

Usually when I do cat pictures I just leave it on P and don't worry about the settings. Ettl does a pretty good job of exposing for the scene for me

Here's some of my black cat with the exif intact http://www.pbase.com/coreypolis/cordymia

My problem forever was trying to get a white can and a black one together to come out.

http://i.pbase.com/u11/coreypolis/large/42920617.NewFolderEPV0035.jpg

a little of the whites and blacks are clipped, but overall its a pretty good rendition of both. That was with high speed sync enabled on the flash.

Now our white kitten is gone, but replaced with a gray one, who is great for metering from :)

Hi all, this is my first post here  I have been interested in photography for awhile but i have finally bit the bullet and bought a camera. There are some amazing photos on here and i find the post processing forum very interesting/helpful. I bought a 350d last week but not had a propper chance to go out and use it due to a nightmare week at work

Hope to post some pics for CC in the future to help me on my way to better foto's ;)

Heres 2 pictures of my cat that i took this evening.. her name is Cleo and currently lives with friends.

Cheers
