My puppy, Maika

Hello! Here are two headshots of my 4-month-old Belgian shepherd puppy, Maika. They are cropped, but I think the quality is fairly decent. The camera is a Powershot A40.

What I would like to know is can I get them to be sharper?

Lovely dog!

However if I may critique, the first picture appears to be out of focus or there is a little bit of motion blur. On the second picture the left of Maika's head is in deep shadow - you might be able to lift this in Photoshop but maybe taking the pictures in less harsh sunlight might work better.
