Hi All,

After a long wait, I've just become the happy owner of of a 10D.

What recommendations do you have for printing. I'd like to be able to produce the prints myself, in a variety of sizes (A4 probably being the largest size needed).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards

Andrew Ellinas (newbie)!

Hi Andrew

I have just got hold of an Epson 950 printer. It's the best I'ver ever owned and I am really happy with it. Mind you, I'm happy with it because it's the best I've ever owned rather than better than anything else.

Your 10D will easily get you A4 prints and with some cropping.

It might help if you asked a few more specific questions regarding printing other that looking for "recommendations." You'll probably find the more specific questions will get better answers rather than opinions (like mine!) :D

I haven't looked but some of the other boards on this site might already have some discusion going.

Thanks for your reply Martin.

One of my friends has just bought a Kodak 8500 Dye-Sub Digital Photo Printer. It produces fantastic prints up to A4 but, and its a big BUT, the printer costs £799 plus VAT and the paper is 50p per sheet.

So i guess what I'm after is a cheaper option that still produces good results.

Just bought a Canon i9100 and all I can say is that it is just brilliant. Prints on that look better than on screen.

OK it is A3 capable so you might be better of with the Canon i950 which is the same kind of quality just A4 instead.

Canon software is easy to use without loads of options no-one understands like you get with Epsons (in my past experience).

The i9100 (and I guess the i950) is simply a case of plugging in and going. Default options give terrific quality output.

Neighbour (whose new kitten I took shots of the other day) simply wouldn't believe that the glossy prints I produced for her were not done in a lab. ;)

Cheers

Ian

I'll double the motion for the i9100!!

Never heard of an Epson 950. You sure it's not a Canon BJC i950

I have the Epson Stylus 2200. When I was shopping for a home use wide format printer that would print up to 13x19's, it came down to the Epson and the Canon S9000. At the time of purchase I didn't own my 10D.

The Epson does a fantastic job printing with all sizes. I'm sure the Canon S9000 does also but I chose the Epson. Now, that I have the 10D, I sort of wish I'd gotten the Canon printer. Price wise at that time, March 2003, they were going for $600.00 to $700.00.

If I remember correctly, the 950 = 960 in USA (as far as Epson goes). I own it, I love it, and the prints are great. There are many threads on here discussion Canon vs Epson printers -- I think either is a good choice - just depends on the width you want and what you fancy -- although there are def some STRONG opinions out there one way and the other.
