Has anyone tried the Opteka 3.2x Tele conversion lens with the PowerShot A620? It is described as designed for the Sony Cybershot DSC-V3 Camera, but has the same 58mm mount as the Canon conversion lenses. This suggests it can at least be mounted to the camera. Therefore, the question remaining is whether it will work optically with the camera.

i don't know wether it works with that camera or not--however, not all converters work well with all cameras, so just because it is the same thread mount, don't assume it will work.

On the contrary, I would assume that the quality would be subpar primarily because it was specifically designed for a sony (as you say). Not that sony is subpar, per say, but these compact cameras are much more sensitive to what you put in front of them then are DSLR's---maybe it will work and render some satisfying pictures, however, from the research I have done on converters for compacts (or at least my s2), I would stick with one that has already been tested with your specicfic model

Remember that even if a converter is recommended for you camera, the image quality is still being degraded--for me, I want to make sure that I keep that degradation to a minimum and want to be sure I know what to expect from a converter before I spend money on it.

Well, since I'm asking if others have tried it, I'm obviously not assuming it will work. I'm also not assuming it will not work either. Instead, I'm hoping one of the others here have had a chance to try it (either at a store, through a purchase, or otherwise have both cameras and this lens available to experiment with). However, thanks for your input.

Hope no one minds me kidnapping this thread: Has anyone got any experience with Optekas tele-lenses for the A620/610? I'm thinking about getting a 2.2x telephoto lens, which can be found for around 35 USD on the eBay. With shipping charges it ends up at about $65 (that's what you get for living at the end of the world), which is about 1/3 of the price of the lenses (not Opteka however, other brands, including Canon) I've seen in Swedish online shops.

So I figure that if the quality is not all bad this could be a good start, at least for someone at the very beginning of the learning curve. Any comments?

Edit: Removed a part of the message that I just realized was pure rubbish, hopefully before anyone saw it. :)

Hello miklon,

I have a lensmate 52mm adapter and I got a tiffen megaplus teleconverter with a 43mm. I had to purchase a thin 52-43mm step ring to go with it that I believe lensmate also manufactures. It works really well on the tele side, no vignetting problems until you zoom back twice on an a610/620. Reviews of the megaplus teleconverters are always good and sometimes y ou can get a good deal at ebay if you look.

If you have a 58mm adapter, sorry, I can't give you any suggestions since I have no experience with it.
