I thought that Canon anounced that there would be a new 200 f1.8L back in Feb as part of the new lineup anouncments. Is it still RSN, or did I misread something?

Pipe dream I think!! Then again, same thing was said about the 85L and lo and behold, Canon replaced it........could happen even though I doubt it!!

As far as I know Canon has not announced they wil definately be a new 200/1.8L, but there has been a lot of speculation there will be. Possibly as early as this fall, but this is only in rumor land.

Canon have said they are working on some improved lens technology (such as liquid lenses) and some reliable sources indicate they are also working on releasing some lenses superior to current L standards within a year or two (with nervousness caused by worry of possible new lens mount although no reliable indications of this coming at this time)

Given the relative low demand for this lens, Canon may either decide not worth the development cost or are just waiting for enough desire to build up that it makes it worth it. No confirmed information has come out and all sources to date on information about specific 200/1.8L or variants of this lens are considered only semi-reliable at best.

oh...and come on, they HAVE to get this lens out. Nikon has the 200mm f/2.0 with VR...if the VR would work with the adapter I'd buy one, so I'm definitely in the market for Canon's 200 with IS.

Took me an age to find mine tho they now seem to be fairly common on ebay now-a-days.
